(WJZ) \u2014\u00a0<\/strong>Masks are now a part of our everyday lives. For some people, what\u2019s underneath the mask is giving them issues they\u2019ve never had before.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not what our skin is used to, having a piece of material covering a majority of our face, trapping moisture and bacteria against our skin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(There\u2019s) so much more irritation from the mask, whether it\u2019s causing friction, moisture, the heat,\u201d Dr. Sarah Cannon of Cannon Dermatology said.<\/p>\n<p>Cannon said many patients who have battled acne in the past are having flare-ups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re seeing a lot of new cases of patients coming in with new-onset acne who have never had acne before,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Cannon suggests proper hydration, keeping makeup off the skin that is covered and washing your mask after each use.<\/p>\n<p>The discomfort is one thing, but how you feel about yourself is another.<\/p>\n<p>Julie Newton is an aesthetician at Spa on The Boulevard and said her appointments have been filling up with people who need some TLC for their facial skin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s definitely something everybody is struggling with right now,\u201d Newtson said. \u201cIt\u2019s not something to really be embarrassed about, either, especially if you\u2019re looking to get help. That\u2019s why we\u2019re here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She suggests a HydraFacial and a good skincare routine to help keep your skin clear.<\/p>\n<p>Cannon said everyone is different and treatment is on a case by case basis.
