Don\u2019t get me wrong. If you walked up and asked someone like the little short guy from Facebook who sat on some books at his congressional hearing so he could see over the table or that dude with the dirty looking beard from Twitter or all those so-called journalists frothing at the mouth on CNN whether they wanted to turn our nation into a carbon copy of Hitler\u2019s Germany, they\u2019d be positively aghast at the very notion.<\/p>\n Yet every day on social media, people like me try to share innocuous things, like an article about taco seasoning, I kid you not, and we\u2019re told we aren\u2019t following \u201ccommunity standards.\u201d<\/p>\n For the record, I had waited 15 minutes between posting that article on my personal timeline and was then trying to share it on my frugal living Facebook page. I\u2019m an anti-politician, anti-war, lower-case L libertarian who believes that gay married couples should be able protect their legally grown weed with guns.<\/p>\n The concept that they and their platforms might be the modern version of the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda has probably never even crossed their mind. In fact, these people think they\u2019re\u00a0actively fighting Nazis<\/em>.<\/p>\n In this essay, I\u2019m not even talking about the horrors of the Holocaust itself. I\u2019m explaining about the very idea that media should all be government-mandated, dissent should be silenced, and those who have different opinions should be crushed was at the very heart of the Reich.<\/p>\n Censorship in WWII Germany was the key to controlling the populace and Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels eagerly took control of the news,\u00a0literature,\u00a0filmmaking,\u00a0theatre,\u00a0music, and all forms of broadcasting in order to present the illusion of a united front that eagerly and vehemently supported Adolph Hitler and all the evils that occurred under his reign.<\/p>\n The current culture of outrage and cancellation is busily trying to shut down dissenting opinions. They\u2019re picking through social media posts from a dozen years ago and \u201ccanceling\u201d someone for a meme they posted or an offhand remark they made way back when. It\u2019s obvious that the goal is to silence anyone who might have some small amount of influence over others in order to show the rest of the country, \u201cLook, everyone\u00a0agrees<\/em>! We must be right because all the popular people say we are!\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s a worrisome fact that most of the people holding the microphones right now have the influence, power, and money to set the tone for our country. They have the platforms, the money, the power, and the ability to silence the rest of us peons who simply want to be left alone with our guns, our gardens, our favorite websites, and our own religious beliefs.<\/p>\n The fact that the United States is even considering a position called the \u201creality czar\u201d should alert you to the fact that reality will not be judged by what\u2019s happening \u2013 you know,\u00a0actual reality<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 but by what this \u201cczar\u201d is told the people should believe to be the truth. And yes, there are people who really, truly believe there should be a reality czar like this yahoo at the New York Times.<\/p>\n Several experts I spoke with recommended that the Biden administration put together a cross-agency task force to tackle disinformation and domestic extremism, which would be led by something like a \u201creality czar.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n It sounds a little dystopian, I\u2019ll grant<\/strong>. But let\u2019s hear them out.<\/p>\n Right now, these experts said, the federal government\u2019s response to disinformation and domestic extremism is haphazard and spread across multiple agencies, and there\u2019s a lot of unnecessary overlap.<\/p>\n Ren\u00e9e DiResta, a disinformation researcher at Stanford\u2019s Internet Observatory, gave the example of two seemingly unrelated problems: misinformation about Covid-19 and misinformation about election fraud. (source<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n He even admits it \u201csounds a little dystopian.\u201d You THINK? Perhaps that is because it is positively and unarguably dystopian. That might be why it sounds that way. And he\u2019s not alone.<\/p>\n Another dude at Wired thinks we need a literal federal Ministry of Truth to monitor deepfakes and disinformation. (Much like the Patriot Act is not patriotic, I\u2019m pretty sure we should not expect a Ministry of Truth to be truthful.)<\/p>\n So, what about a new federal agency? A central body tasked with combating disinformation, parsing fact from fiction and thereby ensuring Americans\u2019 collective sanity when the flood of fakes truly arrives: a Bureau of Information, a Department of Facts, a Ministry of \u2026 Truth!<\/p>\n Full circle, and we\u2019re back at dystopia. The idea might sound absurd, unimaginable even: Washington bureaucrats regulating reality itself, dictating to Americans what\u2019s true and what isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n Is it really so crazy? The EPA protects our environment, the FDA protects our bodies, the DHS protects our borders. In the era of indistinguishability, difficult choices will need to be made in order to protect our minds. When the fakes come for you and yours\u2014when, for example, your adolescent child is deepfaked by an internet bully\u2014you might want a Ministry of Truth that actually lives up to the name, that doesn\u2019t falsify but certifies the truth, that assertively stamps its authority atop fake videos: \u201cThis content is not real.\u201d American history includes no shortage of necessary (if at first uneasy) interventions, in which citizens trade some degree of individual autonomy for collective peace of mind: \u201cFDA-approved\u201d food and drugs; \u201cMoT-approved\u201d audio and video. (source<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n All these people are\u00a0admitting<\/em>\u00a0these ideas are dystopian but they\u2019re absolutely and totally cool with that and they want you to be cool with it too.\u00a0THEY LITERALLY WANT A F*CKING DYSTOPIA.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Any person who suggests that shutting every opinion that is different from theirs is \u201cdisinformation and domestic extremism\u201d is actually the person committing the act of domestic extremism. That\u2019s because our founding document states that \u201cCongress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or\u00a0abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press<\/strong>; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.\u201d<\/p>\n A government-appointed reality czar would most certainly abridge the freedom of speech and the press and while it would not be a law passed by Congress, it would be an arm of the government, making such a position undeniably unconstitutional.<\/p>\n First of all, we aren\u2019t a kingdom and we don\u2019t need any czars. The term \u201cczar\u201d comes from Tsarist Russia (and here everyone said Trump was in bed with Russia. The irony pretty much writes itself.) A quick refresher on tsars:<\/p>\n Russia was ruled by Tsars who had ultimate authority on all matters of governance. The oppressive system left no room for change and brewed revolutionary ideas and aspirations\u2026Tsars believed that they had a divine right to rule Russia, their position and power had been given to them by God. (source<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Let\u2019s just get rid of that whole icky term, \u201cczar,\u201d shall we?<\/p>\n Many of our problems in the United States today stem from the mainstream media, which has been\u00a0sh*t-disturbing and causing near-civil war for years now<\/a>, and social media, which is manipulated to\u00a0make us feel a certain way emotionally<\/a>\u00a0or to make us\u00a0believe a certain way socially<\/a>\u00a0because \u201ceveryone else does.\u201d<\/p>\n And that\u2019s a lot more troubling than you might think. These manipulations can change something as massive as the presidential and congressional elections. There was, in fact, a joint effort to do just that and they aren\u2019t even being coy about it.<\/p>\n Time magazine flat out admitted<\/a>\u00a0that the election was \u201cswayed\u201d by \u201csteering media coverage\u201d and \u201ccontrolling the flow of information.\u201d<\/p>\n And if you don\u2019t like it?\u00a0You\u2019d better be quiet about it or you\u2019ll get \u201ccanceled\u201d too<\/a>. Just look at what happened to Parler and what\u2019s happening right now to Gab. Parler got kicked off their server and Gab has lost access to nearly every way they can take payments.<\/p>\n If you dissent, the Woke Folks will make an example of you. You lose your job. You lose your business. You get starved out. You get publicly humiliated. You get doxxed.<\/p>\n Also, I have a news flash: \u201cthe press\u201d is not just CNN and other left-leaning media outlets. Legally, \u201cthe press\u201d is defined as follows:<\/p>\n All men have a right to print and publish whatever they may deem proper, unless by doing so they infringe the rights of another, as\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0case\u00a0of\u00a0copyrights,\u00a0(q.v.)\u00a0when\u00a0they\u00a0may\u00a0be\u00a0enjoined.\u00a0For\u00a0any\u00a0injury\u00a0they\u00a0may\u00a0commit\u00a0against With the advent of the internet, \u201cthe press\u201d became much, much bigger. Alternative news outlets are the press. Citizen journalists are the press. YouTubers, bloggers, and authors. We are all the press, every single one of us, and we are free human beings who have a constitutional right to dissent.<\/p>\n And it isn\u2019t just the little people they want to silence. The Woke Folks want to \u201ctake down\u201d Fox News. I\u2019m not saying Fox is perfect \u2013 I rarely ever watch mainstream news \u2013 but they are the only mainstream holdout that isn\u2019t far left and ready to cancel everybody.<\/p>\n Loads of pundits are unironically accusing Fox of doing precisely what they do \u2013 brainwashing the masses. It\u2019s utter madness, even if they weren\u2019t also sharing their own opinions like they are the Gospel, to believe that opinions should be punished, outlawed, and disappeared like a terrorist getting black-bagged to Guantanomo.<\/p>\n A guy at The Daily Beast<\/a>\u00a0is rubbing his hands together in glee at the very idea of people refusing to pay for Fox on basic cable, taking away a couple of bucks per person because he believes that a report from The Lancet about the spread of Covid \u201cput the cherry on top of the \u201cthis was basically Trump\u2019s fault\u201d sundae.\u201d<\/p>\n Some\u00a0fellow on the Washington Post<\/a>\u00a0doesn\u2019t think boycotting Fox\u2019s advertisers is extreme enough. He isn\u2019t happy about the financial impact of defamation suits. He\u2019s bitterly disappointed that \u201ccable giants like AT&T, Comcast and Charter Spectrum\u201d have failed to removed Fox and Newsmax from the airways, stating sadly,\u00a0 \u201cBut the cable systems have shown\u00a0little willingness<\/a>\u00a0to police their offerings.\u201d He fervently wishes Fox could be \u201cimpeached.\u201d<\/p>\n And he\u2019s not alone.<\/p>\n On the program \u201cMorning Joe,\u201d Anand Giridharadas of MSNBC questioned whether Fox News \u201cis a thing that should exist in America.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2026<\/p>\n Nicholas Kristof from the\u00a0Times<\/em>\u00a0wrote<\/a>, \u201cWe must clear an ecosystem of mass delusion spread by Fox News and many Republicans\u201d in a recent opinion piece.<\/p>\n And Oliver Darcy from CNN again pointed fingers at AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, Charter, and Dish\u2014which host channels like Fox News\u2014and\u00a0said<\/a>, \u201cit is time TV carriers face questions for lending their platforms\u00a0 to dishonest companies that profit off of disinformation and conspiracy theories.\u201d (source<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Journalists who should be the people fighting the hardest for a free press are going to the mat to shut down those who they believe are engaged in Wrongthink. It\u2019s like we woke up and instead of 2021, we\u2019ve been transported straight into Orwell\u2019s version of 1984.<\/p>\n Once the opposition has been crushed and silenced, all that will be left is state-run media.<\/p>\n Like the Xi<\/strong>nhua News Agency in communist China, everything that is published will be government approved. Let\u2019s take a look at that news agency (emphasis mine):<\/p>\n Xinhua News Agency or New China News Agency is the official state-run press agency of the People\u2019s Republic of China. Xinhua is the biggest and most influential media organization in China, as well as the largest news agency in the world in terms of correspondents worldwide.\u00a0Xinhua is a ministry-level institution subordinate to the State Council<\/strong>\u00a0and is the highest ranking state media organ in the country alongside the People\u2019s Daily. Its president is a member of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party\u2026<\/p>\n \u2026The news agency has faced criticism of\u00a0spreading propaganda and criticising people or movements critical of the CCP.<\/strong><\/p>\n Xinhua is a publisher as well as a news agency\u2014it owns more than 20 newspapers and a dozen magazines and it publishes in several languages, besides Chinese, including English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Japanese and Korean. Scholars have noted that\u00a0Xinhua tailors its pro-CCP message to the nuances of each audience<\/strong>.
