Additionally, variants in California and New York also appear to spread more easily, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-02-26\/cdc-director-raises-alarm-as-cases-rise-again-variants-spread\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caption caption-img\" role=\"group\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/walensky.jpg?itok=z3QXiMn1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"312\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"e54b149a-b010-4ef4-9e7b-8840485c4bfd\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><figcaption><em>CDC Director Rochelle Walensky<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Things are tenuous &#8212; now is not the time to relax restrictions<\/strong>,&#8221; said Walensky, adding &#8220;The latest data suggest that these declines may be stalling, potentially leveling off at still a very high number. We at the CDC consider this a very concerning shift in the trajectory.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Walensky&#8217;s warning was simultaneously parroted by Anthony Fauci &#8211; head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases &#8211; saying that people shouldn&#8217;t become complacent, and that we may be wearing masks into 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We really have to be careful and take a look at that curve,&#8221; he said, adding &#8220;If we plateau at 70,000, we are at that very precarious position that we were right before the fall surge, where anything that could perturb that could give us another surge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We may be done with the virus but clearly the virus is not done with us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The renewed &#8216;concern&#8217; comes as both\u00a0<strong>COVID cases and deaths are falling precipitously.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to BofA, &#8220;The seven-day average of new cases in the US is down up 5% from the prior week to 68,000,&#8221; which they attribute in part to the impact of last week&#8217;s winter storms driving down testing &#8211; but noting that &#8220;the true trend in infections is still likely modestly lower.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/bac.png?itok=I_6-YaIG\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/bac.png?itok=I_6-YaIG\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/bac.png?itok=I_6-YaIG\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"432\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"d0e5e534-4b2e-4fcc-b792-16b499b833c2\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"Advert_desktop__1J5vD Advert_borderTop__2PX5m Advert_placement__1I4yb\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>And<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>now for the chaser;\u00a0<\/strong>The CDC just admitted in its own report that\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/political\/more-people-contract-covid-19-family-members-outside-contacts-cdc\">asymptomatic\u00a0<em>and<\/em>\u00a0pre-symptomatic transmission<\/a>\u00a0within households &#8211; a key justification for lockdowns &#8211; turns out to be virtually nonexisten<\/strong><strong>t.\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/political\/more-people-contract-covid-19-family-members-outside-contacts-cdc\">Household transmission<\/a>\u00a0is the primary mode of infection for COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/02\/24\/in-report-affirming-nearly-no-transmission-in-schools-cdc-slips-in-shocking-data-about-asymptomatic-spread\/\"><em>The Federalist<\/em><\/a>&#8216;s Georgi Boorman writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/70\/wr\/mm7004e3.htm?s_cid=mm7004e3_w\">Jan. 29 report\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0conclusion seems to fit the pro-mask narrative, of course: \u201cSchools might be able to safely open with appropriate mitigation efforts [such as masking and not allowing student cohorts to mix] in place.\u201d In the 17 rural Wisconsin schools surveyed, only seven cases were linked to in-school transmission out of 4,876 pupils, and no staff members were infected at school during the study period.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>While the report spends ample time explaining the mitigation strategies employed in the schools and the high reported mask compliance (92%) among students, the authors later discuss something you probably have not seen in any of the mainstream media\u2019s coverage of this report:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cChildren might be more likely to be asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19 than are adults\u2026This apparent\u00a0<strong>lack of transmission [in schools] is consistent with recent research (5), which found an asymptomatic attack rate of only 0.7% within households<\/strong>\u00a0and a lower rate of transmission from children than from adults. However, this study was unable to rule out asymptomatic transmission within the school setting because surveillance testing was not conducted\u201d (emphasis added).<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The study, a meta-analysis of 54 studies into household transmission of COVID-19, was posted as a pre-print over the summer and published in December.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The most significant portion of the analysis finds that while asymptomatic\u00a0<em>and<\/em>\u00a0presymptomatic cases account for just 0.7% of transmission,\u00a0<em>symptomatic\u00a0<\/em>cases had an 18% attack rate<\/strong>\u00a0within the household. In other words,\u00a0<strong>most people who contract COVID-19 at home were infected by someone who was visibly ill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Estimated mean household secondary\u00a0<strong>attack rate from symptomatic index cases<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>18.0%<\/strong>; 95% CI, 14.2%-22.1%)\u00a0<strong>was significantly higher than from asymptomatic or presymptomatic index cases\u00a0<\/strong>(<strong>0.7%<\/strong>; 95% CI, 0%-4.9%; P &lt; .001), although there were few studies in the latter group. These findings are consistent with other household studies28,70 reporting asymptomatic index cases as having limited role in household transmission,&#8221; reads the study.<\/p>\n<p>As Boorman continues: &#8220;<strong>The key, if not central, rationale for non-pharmaceutical interventions such as masking, distancing, and staying at home is allegedly significant transmission from people who don\u2019t show symptoms<\/strong>.
