Michigan Republicans Call For Investigation Into Gov. Whitmer Over Coronavirus Nursing Home Deaths<\/h1>\n

Michigan Republican state legislators are calling for an investigation into Gov. Gretchen Whitmer over coronavirus deaths at nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.<\/h3>\n

The legislatures have sent a formal letter to U.S. Attorney General Monty Wilkinson and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel requesting an investigation.<\/p>\n

Fox News\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0that State Sen. Jim Runestad spearheaded\u00a0the letters, which were\u00a0signed by seven other Republican state senators.<\/p>\n

\u201cGov. Whitmer\u2019s regional hub policy placed patients with and without COVID-19 in the same facilities and may have exacerbated the death toll in those facilities,\u201d Runestad said in a statement. \u201cQuestions remain regarding the accuracy of data, compliance with CDC guidelines and compliance with our state\u2019s Freedom of Information Act. There is a critical need for a full investigation into these matters.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The senators also pointed to \u201cdiscrepancies\u201d in cases and death data \u201cin the state\u2019s long-term care facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has now come to our attention that these reporting errors have likely not been resolved,\u201d the letter said. \u201cGov. Whitmer\u2019s regional hub policy put patients with and without COVID-19 in the same facilities and may have exacerbated the death toll in those facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, due to reporting failures, there will be no accurate data on how many residents may have been harmed by the administration\u2019s policies because there is no clear reporting path to document nursing home patient cases by facility after a transfer takes place,\u201d they continued.<\/p>\n

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is currently facing calls for impeachment over his handling of nursing homes during the pandemic.<\/p>\n
