NY\u2019s Sexual Harassment Working Group urges Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign<\/h1>\n

An anti-sexual-harassment group made up of former state legislative staffers called on Gov. Cuomo to resign Saturday in the\u00a0wake of sexual harassment allegations<\/a>\u00a0against him.<\/p>\n

\u201cENOUGH. New York State has now lost the talents and ambition of yet another woman, whose safety and integrity were eliminated to serve a powerful man\u2019s desires. Andrew Cuomo must resign now,\u201d the Sexual Harassment Working Group said in a statement, after ex-Cuomo aide,\u00a0Charlotte Bennett, accused the governor<\/a>\u00a0of behaving inappropriately toward her last year.<\/p>\n

Bennett, 25, told The New York Times that Cuomo, 63, complained to her about being \u201clonely\u201d and not being able to hug anyone during the pandemic, before pressing her on who she last hugged.<\/p>\n

When she revealed her own history of sexual assault to Cuomo, Bennett claimed his reaction \u201cwas something out of a horror movie,\u201d the paper reported.<\/p>\n

Cuomo allegedly kept repeating to Bennett, \u201c\u2018You were raped and abused and attacked and assaulted and betrayed,\u2019 over and over again while looking me directly in the eyes \u2026 It was like he was testing me,\u201d she told a friend in a text message which was viewed by The Times.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, the Sexual Harassment Working Group had called for in investigation of the governor after another former staffer,\u00a0Lindsey Boylan, accused him<\/a>\u00a0of trying to kiss her on the mouth and suggesting a game of \u201cstrip poker.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere must be an immediate independent investigation into Governor Cuomo\u2019s workplace behavior, conducted by an entity over which Cuomo does not have any appointment or supervisory powers,\u201d\u00a0the group tweeted<\/a>\u00a0hours after Boylan came forward.<\/p>\n

In the Saturday statement, the group \u2014 which was formed by seven former Albany staffers who said they were harassed by ex-Assembly Members Vito Lopez and Micah Kellner, among others \u2014 offered words of encouragement to Bennett.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo Charlotte: we send you our strength, support, and shared rage for the abuse you endured,\u201d the group wrote. \u201cYou have done an incredibly hard thing, becoming another important link in a powerful chain to creating a harassment free Albany. This is not something anyone asks for, but we are proud of you.\u201d<\/p>\n
