“Isn’t It Just Theater?” Rand Paul Pummels Fauci Over Science Behind Multi-Mask Mayhem<\/h1>\n

National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci and CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky testified Thursday with other federal officials on the\u00a0COVID-19 response.<\/a><\/p>\n

In a heated exchange at the hearing on the nation\u2019s coronavirus response,\u00a0SaraACarter.com’s Annaliese Levy reports<\/a>\u00a0that Kentucky Sen.\u00a0Rand\u00a0Paul\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>pushed back against Fauci\u2019s claim that masks should be required for every American, including those who are already immune from COVID-19.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been\u00a0no reports of significant numbers of reinfections\u00a0<\/strong>after acquiring COVID-19 naturally,\u201d Sen. Paul said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"\"<\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n

Paul went on to cite numerous studies that had significant evidence of long-term immunity after COVID infection.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo rather than being pessimistic towards people gaining immunity after they\u2019ve had COVID, or had a vaccine, studies argue for significant optimism,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Paul told Dr. Fauci.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, there have been no scientific studies arguing, or proving, that infection with COVID does not create immunity.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cGiven that no scientific studies have shown significant numbers of reinfections of patients previously infected, or previously vaccinated,\u00a0what specific studies do you cite to argue that the public should be wearing masks well into 2022?<\/strong>\u201d Paul asked Fauci.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we\u2019re not spreading the infection, isn\u2019t it just theater? You have the vaccine and you\u2019re wearing two masks, isn\u2019t that theater?\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But Senator Paul was not finished…<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want to get rid of vaccine hesitancy?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cTell them to quit wearing their mask after getting the vaccine.\u00a0You want people to get the vaccine? Give them a reward instead of telling them that the nanny state\u2019s going to be there for three more years, and you gotta wear a mask forever.\u00a0<\/strong>People don\u2019t want to hear it and there\u2019s no science behind it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Fauci was furious.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere we go again with the theater,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Fauci replied growing frustrated, adding\u00a0“let’s get down to the facts.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Fauci argued that the variants of the disease which are now circulating require every American to wear masks, but Paul interrupted…<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat proof is there that there is significant reinfections with hospitalizations and deaths from the variants? None in our country. Zero,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Paul replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re making a policy based on conjecture.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve been vaccinated and you parade around in a mask for show.\u00a0<\/strong><\/u>You can\u2019t get it again!\u201d Paul exclaimed.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re defying everything we know about immunity by telling people to wear masks who have been vaccinated.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Paul, who was infected with COVID-19 at the beginning of the pandemic last March, has said he is immune to future infection. As a result, he refuses to wear a mask in the Capitol and has declared he does not need to be vaccinated.<\/p>\n

Fauci responded,<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me just state for the record masks are not theater. Masks are protective,” adding that “I totally disagree” with what Paul said.<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
