\nso that payer insurance company was

\nhad a natural antipathy towards vaccines

\nand i wanted to give them the science

\nbehind it so i ended up digging deeply

\ninto that issue

\nso let me share some things that i knew

\nsome of these things but i did not know

\nmost of these things

\nprior to this year many of you in the

\nroom i’m sure have heard of the tuskegee

\nwe all know that okay but there’s a lot

\nmore than that i was i was curious as to

\nwhy the antipathy was so
\n36:43
\nstrong so let me give you some examples

\nof where vaccines have gone wrong for

\nblack and brown people
\n36:51
\nso with the rubella vaccine

\nrace and ethnicity were shown to affect
\n36:57
\nthe antibody responses

\nlike at a higher level than compared to

\neuropeans with the measles

\nvirus i think many people in this room

\nthey also had that same experience

\nwith pertussis was also the same

\nwith the in wheat they also had the same

\nproblem with the measles

\nhaemophilus influenza also had the same

\ndifference in the response

\nand the hepatitis vaccine also had this

\ndifferent response amongst races

\nspecifically white boys

\nwere 64 percent less likely to have

\nautism diagnosis relative to non-white

\nnurses and we must prioritize blacks and

\nlatinos to reflect fairness and justice
\n40:41
\nnow i i just find this so incredibly

\noffensive
\n40:45
\nwe know exactly who falls from kovac 19.

\nit’s nursing home patients it’s people
\n40:51
\nwith 2.6
\n40:53
\ncomorbidities per person is average
\n40:57
\npeople over 75 or living in nursing
\n40:59
\nhomes this is who should get the vaccine

\nfirst if you believe the vaccine is safe

\nand effective

\nthat’s it and i feel very offended on

\nthis because

\nyou know the people who they’re going to

\ntarget first honestly are my friends

\nwhich are all the black nurses that i

\nwork with in the ers because i’ve spent

\nmy whole career in the inner city

\nand so they’re all being told you got to

\nline up you got to take this and i’m

\nthinking to myself well you’re about 45

\nyears old 50 years old you know you’re

\nin good health you’re working every day

\nwhy should you be prioritized there’s no
\n41:24
\nactual increased risk to the health care

\nthere it’s the risk we know who it is

\nit’s the 80 year old

\nwoman who’s living in a nursing home a

\nman who’s living in a nursing home he’s

\nthose people are at high risk okay it’s

\nabout how to manipulate the media and

\ntake the vaccine obama being one of them

\nand it’s very clear it’s just very very

\nso i say to you as a scientist do you

\nwant to be first if you want to be first

\nvolunteer yourself for track and trace

\nany real racial issues at all

\nwe saw white people latino people and

\nbut i never really saw a racial

\ndifference and that’s not true there are

\nother things obviously that have racial

\ndifferences

\nso i remember thinking this is weird you

\nknow aoc would get forward and say oh

\nit’s really bad against black people

\nthis is terrible and it’s discrimination

\nand all that

\nhere’s what i want to say to that it’s

\ntrue that in

\nthere are many areas where black people
\n44:30
\nwere disproportionately affected by
\n44:31
\ncover 19. so an example i like to use

\nwas in new orleans louisiana where

\nblacks made up 31 percent of the
\n44:37
\npopulation but they made up 70
\n44:39
\nof the people admitted to the hospital
\n44:40
\nwith cover 19. so on the left they were

\nsaying

\nthis was because of racism but when you

\nlook at the data
\n44:47
\nthere does not yet appear and i think

\nnever will appear

\nto be an independent race to be an

\nindependent risk factor right

\nwe know what makes people really sick

\nit’s diabetes and obesity primarily
\n44:58
\nand then you know other serious medical
\n45:00
\nproblems now

\nalso living in a very crowded area
\n45:03
\nworking in a very crowded area
\n45:05
\nthe reason i don’t think this is ever
\n45:07
\ngoing to be shown to be a race problem
\n45:08
\nrace problem is things that you just
\n45:11
\nknow by common sense
\n45:12
\none is it’s been all over the world all
\n45:14
\nraces okay we can just start with that
\n45:17
\nsecond is in aries of the world where
\n45:20
\npeople
\n45:21
\nare have those high individual risk
\n45:23
\nfactors like diabetes or obesity and
\n45:25
\nother illnesses and the group risk
\n45:28
\nfactors such as living and working in
\n45:29
\nthai quarters
\n45:31
\nit’s not black people that get it at a
\n45:32
\nworse rate it’s those people in those
\n45:34
\nsituations
\n45:35
\nso in louisiana it was black people but
\n45:38
\nin the uk
\n45:39
\nit was middle eastern and east asian
\n45:42
\nnow there’s the people living in those
\n45:43
\ncrowded dense areas that have diabetes
\n45:46
\nthose are the people it didn’t matter
\n45:47
\nwhat the race was it just mattered if
\n45:48
\nyou if you had those
\n45:49
\nindividual group risk factors and of
\n45:52
\ncourse the irony of saying that this is
\n45:54
\nreally a racial
\n45:55
\nproblem is looking at the continent of

\nafrica for those of you who don’t know

\nthe one continent that’s been spared is

\nafrica except south africa but the rest
