South Dakota Republican Sen. Mike Rounds dared President Joe Biden to confiscate his guns on Thursday, posting a picture of a statue of himself holding a rifle and writing \u201ccome and take it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0photo on Twitter<\/a>\u00a0shows the statue the state of South Dakota created as part of a series called Trail of Governors in 2016.<\/p>\n

The artwork of Rounds with his dog is accompanied by the text: \u201cHey @JoeBiden \u2013 come and take it. Careful, she bites too.\u201d<\/p>\n

The post comes following public statements by Biden\u2019s aides and Vice President Kamala Harris that indicate the administration was\u00a0pondering executive action on gun control<\/a>\u00a0in addition to two bills pending the U.S. Senate that would restrict gun ownership rights.<\/p>\n

The comments came after highly publicized shootings in Atlanta and Boulder, Colo., and harkened to a president campaign\u00a0endorsement of Biden by former Rep. Beto O\u2019Rourke<\/a>, who before he dropped out of the nomination race, declared \u201cHell yes, we are going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.\u201d<\/p>\n

In prepared remarks, Biden earlier this week called for more gun restrictions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t need to wait another minute,\u00a0let alone an hour,\u00a0to take commonsense steps that will save lives in the future and to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to act,\u201d\u00a0he said<\/a>. \u201cWe can ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country once again. I got that done when I was a senator. … We should do it again.\u201d<\/p>\n

The post by Rounds, who was governor of South Dakota from 2003 to 2011, drew an immediate reaction from the\u00a0South Dakota Democratic Party<\/a>, who claimed Rounds\u2019 \u201crhetoric\u201d was \u201cseditious\u201d and could \u201cfoment another armed insurrection.\u201d<\/p>\n
