Scientist Who Says He Created Bitcoin Can Sue Mystery Website<\/h1>\n

(Bloomberg) — An Australian scientist who says he created Bitcoin won the backing of a London court to pursue the mystery owners of the bitcoin.org website for allegedly infringing his copyright over the world\u2019s largest cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n

Wright must reveal how much of the digital currency he owns in a suit accusing him of swindling a collaborator out of more than $5 billion, half of the alleged stash.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Craig Wright can serve a lawsuit on Cobra, the operator and owner of bitcoin.org, outside of the U.K. that would require the site to remove the seminal 2008\u00a0white paper<\/a>\u00a0that sparked the currency, Wright\u2019s lawyers said in a statement citing an April 21 ruling from London\u2019s High Court. Wright doesn\u2019t know the identity or identities of Cobra, according to his legal claim.<\/p>\n

Multiple people have claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonym for the person or people who worked on the software for the peer-to-peer currency. Bitcoin\u2019s back story adds to a rollercoaster ride that saw it rocket to new\u00a0record highs<\/a>\u00a0this year as big financial players introduced funds that made it easier for investors to add crypto to portfolios.<\/p>\n

Wright is involved in several court cases that could help prove or disprove his claim to be Satoshi. He\u00a0registered<\/a>\u00a0in 2019 for U.S. copyright for the white paper and early computer code underlying Bitcoin.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin.org\u2019s Cobra has refused to recognize Wright as Satoshi, saying he hasn\u2019t provided a known\u00a0PGP public key<\/a>\u00a0which would make it \u201ccryptographically possible for someone to verify themselves to be Satoshi Nakamoto,\u201d according to a January blog post. Wright\u2019s claims \u201care without merit,\u201d Cobra said.<\/p>\n

Wright\u2019s legal claim quotes an expletive-laden Twitter direct message from Cobra saying Bitcoin.org isn\u2019t based in the U.K. \u201cand Craig\u2019s copyright claims over the whitepaper can be easily verified to be false.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wright is seeking a declaration that he owns the copyright to the Bitcoin white paper, according to the statement. He does not want to restrict access to the white paper which he has\u00a0posted<\/a>\u00a0on his blog, it said.<\/p>\n
