daughter-in-law of a British billionaire\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/05\/31\/jasmine-hartin-to-be-charged-in-death-of-belize-cop-henry-jemmott\/\">was charged<\/a>\u00a0Monday with manslaughter by negligence in the shooting death of a top police officer in Belize, according to reports.<\/p>\n<p>Jasmine Hartin, 32, who is married to the son of politically connected businessman Lord Michael Ashcroft, was denied bail at her arraignment Monday night,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9638097\/American-socialite-Jasmine-Hartin-38-charged-manslaughter-negligence-Belize-cop.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Daily Mail reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She has been held in a tiny concrete cell at the police and court complex in San Pedro that a local described as \u201chell on earth,\u201d the report href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/05\/29\/uk-billionaires-daughter-in-law-questioned-in-death-of-belize-official\/\">was initially detained<\/a>\u00a0for questioning in the Friday morning death of San Pedro Superintendent Henry Jemmott.<\/p>\n<p>The two were defying a COVID-19 curfew and drinking and socializing on a pier before Jemmott\u2019s body was found floating in the water with a bullet wound to the head, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The 42-year-old cop was shot behind the ear with his own revolver, according to cops.<\/p>\n<p>Hartin, a mom of two, was reportedly covered in blood and \u201cdeeply distressed and shaking\u201d when first responders arrived.<\/p>\n<p>After initially being uncooperative, she allegedly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/06\/01\/jasmine-hartin-confessed-to-shooting-after-drug-threat-report\/\">confessed to accidentally shooting<\/a>\u00a0the officer after being threatened with cocaine-possession charges, according to local reports.<\/p>\n<p>The socialite told detectives that she was giving the officer a massage when he asked her to hand over his service Glock pistol \u2014 and the gun accidentally went off,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/7NewsBelize\/posts\/4404419149591816\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to local reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hartin, a Canadian, lives in Belize with her husband, Andrew Ashcroft, the youngest son of Lord Ashcroft. Both were fully clothed at the time, sources\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/pistol-game-theory-belize-police-chiefs-death-lord-ashcroft-zsctrrwp0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told The Times of London<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hartin\u2019s father-in-law is Belize\u2019s former ambassador to the United Nations and his lawyer, the country\u2019s former attorney general, reportedly visited Hartin in jail Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The punishment for manslaughter in Belize can be up to 25 years in prison, but for Hartin is a maximum of five years, the Mail
