The former head of British intelligence agency MI6, who\u00a0previously said he believes the coronavirus outbreak originated from a lab leak<\/a>\u00a0in Wuhan, has warned that it may be too late now to hold the communist state accountable because it will have probably destroyed all the evidence.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking on a London Telegraph podcast, Sir Richard Dearlove lamented that the paper trail of \u2018gain of function\u2019 research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology will likely be gone now.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know that\u2019s what\u2019s happened, but a lot of data has probably been destroyed or made to disappear so it\u2019s going to be difficult to prove definitely the case for a gain-of-function chimera being the cause of the pandemic,\u201d Dearlove noted.<\/p>\n

Dearlove, who served as head of Britain\u2019s foreign intelligence for five years in the early 2000\u2019s, added that China has worked relentlessly to silence scientists who tried to warn the rest of the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe People\u2019s Republic of China is a pretty terrifying regime and does some things we consider unacceptable, and extreme in silencing opposition to the official line of the government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
