{"id":69036,"date":"2021-06-13T18:49:49","date_gmt":"2021-06-13T22:49:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=69036"},"modified":"2021-06-13T18:49:49","modified_gmt":"2021-06-13T22:49:49","slug":"good-riddance-netanyahu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=69036","title":{"rendered":"Good Riddance, Netanyahu!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Bye Bye Bibi: Israel Parliament Vote Narrowly Unseats Netanyahu<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->ZeroHedge.com<\/p>\n<p>Though nothing seems to move fast in Israeli politics &#8211; after four national votes in two years and multiple failed attempts at forming a governing coalition &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Israel&#8217;s longest serving prime minister is\u00a0<em>finally out<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong>for good<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday Israel&#8217;s parliament voted to approve the new coalition government under Naftali Bennet and\u00a0Yair Lapid, with\u00a0<strong>Bennet being sworn in as prime minister\u00a0<\/strong>following the narrow\u00a060-59 vote in Knesset.\u00a0Netanyahu&#8217;s 12-years in office comes to a close and he\u00a0<strong>now faces criminal charges<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; no longer under the protection and legal immunity afforded by the PM&#8217;s office &#8211; over prior corruption cases.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caption caption-img inline-images image-style-inline-images\" role=\"group\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/byebibi.jpg?itok=aNoVEwe_\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"56fa1638-43a4-4a2b-9a7c-c17ddbe8fbb1\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><figcaption><em>BBC\/Reuters: Naftali Bennett (right) ended Benjamin Netanyahu&#8217;s long tenure in office.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"Advert_desktop__1J5vD Advert_tablet__3QEBr Advert_mobile__1rlLc Advert_placement__1I4yb Advert_align__N0_fw\"><\/div>\n<p>But to nobody&#8217;s surprise, Bennett&#8217;s first words as newly sworn in unity leader signaled there will be little change in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-knesset-benjamin-netanyahu-naftalia-bennett-deea22832a1cb2d95736f342958083fd\">Israeli foreign policy<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Bennett\u2019s speech mostly dwelled on domestic issues, but he expressed opposition to U.S. efforts to revive Iran\u2019s nuclear deal with world powers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;Israel will not allow Iran to arm itself with nuclear weapons,&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>Bennett said, vowing to maintain Netanyahu\u2019s confrontational policy. \u201cIsrael will not be a party to the agreement and will continue to preserve full freedom of action.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Bennett nevertheless thanked President Joe Biden and the U.S. for its decades of support for Israel.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And following this,<strong>\u00a0Netanyahu vowed his own return<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Netanyahu, speaking after him, vowed to return to power. And more:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>He accuses Bennett of perpetrating the \u201cgreatest fraud since in Israel\u2019s history,\u201d noting the right-wing leader had ruled out a government with Lapid before the election.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The public won\u2019t forget this\u00a0<strong>tremendous fraud<\/strong>,&#8221; says Netanyahu.<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister says the press will praise Bennett because they know\u00a0\u201cBennett and his allies are \u2018fake right.&#8217;\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In Gaza, Hamas issued this threat: &#8220;No matter the form of the Israeli government, it will not change the nature of our dealings with [Israel].
