are the Western Powers so militarily aggressive and geopolitically provocative in the Black Sea?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Politics of Aggression in the Black Sea <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nBy Renee Parsons<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">As the American public continues to be distracted by a wild divergence of worries and panic, ranging from never-ending Covid related restrictions to on-going massive censorship to protecting innocent school children from mandatory vaccinations and masks; almost all in some way threaten what remains of a Constitutional republic that has for more than two hundred years provided a bulwark of personal and political protections and freedom for every American citizen.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Clearly, all that is now up for grabs. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And yet, not to minimize any of those valid domestic problems, there is a global crisis that is slipping through the cracks that would, at any other time, warrant alarming headlines and mobilize public opinion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The Black Sea<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">So what exactly is the Brit\u2019s attraction to access the Black Sea besides the misguided belief that they are still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/summary\/Decline-of-the-British-Empire\"><span class=\"s3\">The British Empire<\/span><\/a>. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s not like you can make a wrong turn into the Black Sea, accidentally cross through the narrow Dardanelles and then transverse the Bosporus, and voila, oops, there you are in the Black Sea with the Kerch Straits leading straight to mainland Russia &#8211;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>it is not a location conducive for a quick turn around or<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>speedy exit.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/images.search.yahoo.com\/yhs\/search?p=Black+Sea%252C+Dardanelles+and+the+Bosporus&amp;fr=yhs-iry-fullyhosted_003&amp;type=vst_ggfx_14_52_ch&amp;hspart=iry&amp;hsimp=yhs-fullyhosted_003&amp;imgurl=http%253A%252F%252Fasianitinerary.com%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2015%252F04%252F3.1427735403.the-black-sea.jpg#id=8&amp;iurl=http%253A%252F%252Fasianitinerary.com%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2015%252F04%252F3.1427735403.the-black-sea.jpg&amp;action=click\"><span class=\"s3\">Accessing the Black Sea<\/span><\/a> is a very deliberate move with a very specific purpose as its chronology of events continue to unfold as a well coordinated political strategy, a fragment of the on going domestic effort to takedown the United States.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Crimea Referendum <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">As the result of a US sponsored political coup ousting then duly-elected Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych in 2014, the residents of Crimea overwhelmingly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-26606097\"><span class=\"s3\">voted<\/span><\/a> to reassert its historic kinship with Russia.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>However, the United States and the European Union continue to reject the outcome of a legitimate public vote as Ukraine\u2019s puppet regime talks of initiating a military take-back. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Crimea is a <a href=\"https:\/\/images.search.yahoo.com\/yhs\/search?p=crimea+in+Ukraine&amp;fr=yhs-iry-fullyhosted_003&amp;type=vst_ggfx_14_52_ch&amp;hspart=iry&amp;hsimp=yhs-fullyhosted_003&amp;imgurl=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.theyeshivaworld.com%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2014%252F03%252Fcrimea-1024x768.jpg#id=0&amp;iurl=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.theyeshivaworld.com%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2014%252F03%252Fcrimea-1024x768.jpg&amp;action=click\"><span class=\"s3\">peninsula<\/span><\/a> in southeast Ukraine that contains the historic cities of Sevastapol and Yalta, and lies between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Regarded as a sacred and holy site, Crimea represents a spiritual identity in the history of Orthodox Christianity from 900 AD and lies adjacent to Russia which adopted its religious tenets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Brits Enter the Black Sea<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">As a gesture of support for Ukraine\u2019s goal to \u2018<i>recover<\/i>\u2019 Crimea, the Brits deployed RAF aircraft in mid-April along with a US Special Ops team as part of a NATO \u201cair policing mission\u201d to patrol the Black Sea.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Even as a decades-old international<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsws.org\/en\/articles\/2021\/04\/10\/mont-a10.html\"><span class=\"s3\"> treaty<\/span><\/a> prohibits the entrance of aircraft carriers into the Black Sea, the UK continued to establish a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsws.org\/en\/articles\/2021\/04\/20\/blac-j01.html\"><span class=\"s3\">military<\/span><\/a> presence, intent on escalating the argument between a specious Ukraine government and those pesky Russians who insist on protecting their 12 mile border within the Black Sea.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Putin \u2013 Biden Summit<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Back in early June, US pretend President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Geneva for <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/world\/live-news\/biden-putin-meeting-geneva-updates-intl\/index.html?form=MY01SV&amp;OCID=MY01SV\"><span class=\"s3\">ninety minutes<\/span><\/a> behind closed doors with Secretary of State Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in attendance.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>With low expectation for any rapprochement, each offered the following <\/span><span class=\"s4\">at a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/live-updates-biden-putin-meet-112445915.html\"><span class=\"s3\">press conference<\/span><\/a> at the Summit\u2019s conclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\"> Biden said &#8220;<i>The tone of the entire meeting was good, positive<\/i>&#8221; with Putin agreeing &#8220;<i>It seems to me that we did speak the same language.<\/i>&#8220;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>While Putin added that the talks were \u2018<i>very constructive,\u2019<\/i> there was agreement that the US and Russian ambassadors would return to their embassy posts as well as agreement to collaborate on cybersecurity issues. Biden stressed that his agenda was \u201c<i>for America<\/i>\u201d and not \u201c<i>against Russia<\/i>.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In other words, the general assessment was that the meeting went better than had been expected. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">However, despite an apparent meeting of the minds, soon after the Summit, the Brits, who were not invited to attend or participate, increased their aggression in the Black Sea<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>as they proceeded to test Russian resolve and the Biden Administration <a href=\"https:\/\/journal-neo.org\/2021\/07\/16\/biden-s-new-russia-sanctions-reverse-the-geneva-spirit-2\/\"><span class=\"s3\">increased its sanctions<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">HMS Defender Violates Russian Waters<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">On June 23, the HMS Defender, after \u2018drifting\u2019 within 10 nautical miles of Russia\u2019s territorial waters, was reportedly buzzed by the Russians.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Soon after, a BBC reporter, who was on-board the Defender, revealed that the warship had \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/russia\/527400-hms-defender-deliberate-move\/\"><span class=\"s3\"><i>deliberately<\/i><\/span><\/a>\u2019 entered Crimean waters to \u2018<i>make a point<\/i>\u201d to the Russians.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The same reporter then<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>released a <a href=\"https:\/\/eurasiantimes.com\/hms-defender-uks-most-powerful-destroyers-that-trespassed-into-russian-waters-arrives-in-georgia\/\"><span class=\"s3\">video<\/span><\/a> which directly contradicted the British denial as the <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Russian Defense Ministry released its <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/hms-defender-moscow-releases-footage-it-says-shows-navy-vessel-being-tracked-by-russian-military-12339925\"><span class=\"s3\">footage<\/span><\/a> which it says shows The Defender being chased out of Crimean waters.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Russians claim that a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/hms-defender-moscow-releases-footage-it-says-shows-navy-vessel-being-tracked-by-russian-military-12339925\"><span class=\"s3\">Su-M24 Russian<\/span><\/a> warplane dropped bombs near The Defender to alert the destroyer of its transgression. <\/span> <span class=\"s5\">\u00a0Prime Minister Boris Johnson touted the usual \u201cwe <a href=\"https:\/\/sputniknews.com\/russia\/202106291083268776-natos-largest-ever-sea-breeze-naval-drills-begin-in-black-sea-amid-hms-defender-fracas\/\"><span class=\"s3\">don\u2019t recognize<\/span><\/a> the Russian annexation of Crimea, this is part of a sovereign Ukrainian territory.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">At about the same time, two US destroyers were on their way to the Black Sea when Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>\u201c<i>We warn the United States that it will be better for them to stay far away from Crimea and our Black Sea coast. It will be for their own good.<\/i>\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Surprisingly, even the tone-deaf Biden Administration knew enough to cancel the deployment. As a result of the conflict, there was reason to question the whereabouts of the US Navy\u2019s Sixth Fleet when the USS Dwight Eisenhower was discovered to be in the Mediterranean where it may have been prepping to join the British fleet off the Crimean coast.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Brits Defy <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trunews.com\/stream\/russia-threatens-to-sink-nato-ships-in-black-sea-if-provoked\">More recently<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s2\">, after the skirmish with the Defender, the HMS Prince of Wales, accompanied by a nuclear-powered submarine, the HMS Artful, joined the Defender as British Foreign Minister Dominick Raab announced that Britain would not be backing down and will continue to send warships into the Black Sea.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Raab cited unspecified Russian \u2018<i>provocations<\/i>\u201d and spoke like an old-fashioned imperialist <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>\u2019we have every right to carry out peaceful passage through territorial waters of Ukraine in accordance with international laws and we will continue to act in the same way<\/i>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">In addition to luring the Russians to inadvertently cross a territorial demarcation, the Brits may also have their eye on possible seizure of Russia\u2019s vitally valuable nuclear naval port located in Sevastapol on the Crimean coast or a daring run through the Kerch Straits leading directly to mainland Russia.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The port has been home to the Imperial Russian Navy, on and off, since 1783 until it fell into German hands during WWI and WWII.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Russian Reaction to Brit Menace<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">As a result of Raab\u2019s bold assertion as well as Johnson\u2019s cavalier dismissal, Lavrov who has served as Russia\u2019s Foreign Minister since 2004, suggested that Russia will \u2018<i>respond harshly <\/i><b><i>to unfriendly US steps\u2019<\/i><\/b> even though the US has yet to sail into the Black Sea.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>With a well-earned international reputation as a seasoned, discreet diplomat with mature judgement and judicial restraint, Lavrov went on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trunews.com\/stream\/russia-threatens-to-sink-nato-ships-in-black-sea-if-provoked\"><span class=\"s3\">to disclose<\/span><\/a> that during the Putin\/Biden Summit<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201c<i>Russian leader Putin clearly stated, including in public, that the result in all directions is possible only through finding a mutual balance of interest strictly on a parity basis<\/i><b>. <i> No objections were sounded at the talks in Geneva<\/i><\/b><i> with US President Joe Biden.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>However,\u201d <\/i>Lavrov continued,<i> \u201c<\/i><b><i>almost immediately after they were over<\/i><\/b><i>, <\/i><b><i>US officials including participants at the Geneva meeting<\/i><\/b><i> with redoubled force, started their previous lectures<\/i>.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Lavrov then imitated such as<i> \u201cWe told Moscow; we clearly warned and outlined demands.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>By the way, all these warnings come along with threats.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>If Russia, within several months, failed to accept rules of the game <\/i><b><i>as outlined in Geneva<\/i><\/b><i>, it will be subject to new pressure<\/i>.\u201d <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Lavrov went on to assert \u201c<i>The attempt to hold dialogue with us from the position of force are initially doomed to failure.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We will respond harshly and resolutely to unfriendly steps.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There is the need for fair cooperation if Washington really wants stable and predictable relations as it says\u2026\u201d <\/i>and<i> \u201c <\/i>I<i>f the US continues to use force against Russia, we<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>will respond harshly.\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Less-restrained-than-normal, Lavrov was suggesting that the Geneva meeting did not include any such threats or demands, that the US had not brought its A Game to Geneva and that there was no tough guy approach by Biden until the Americans left for home.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It was then that its deep state <a href=\"https:\/\/sherrill.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/representative-sherrill-statement-following-conclusion-biden-putin-summit\"><span class=\"s3\">warmongers<\/span><\/a> went into action and distorted the outcome.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Biden promised additional US sanctions only after the Geneva summit and Lavrov\u2019s use of a \u2018<i>harsh response,<\/i>\u2019 in the diplomatic world, was indicative of a serious political breach suggesting that Biden is no more in control of foreign policy than Donald Trump.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Lavrov was clearly referring to the US, UK and NATO disregard of Russia\u2019s sovereignty in the Black Sea.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">After Lavrov\u2019s comments,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Ryabkov added that \u201c<i>US and Britain tried to open the Russian coastal defense system; and that provocateurs who continue to stage games in the Black Sea will be \u2018<\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trunews.com\/stream\/russia-threatens-to-sink-nato-ships-in-black-sea-if-provoked\"><span class=\"s3\"><i>hit in the nose\u2019.<\/i> <\/span><\/a><\/span><span class=\"s3\">\u201c<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Somehow a pop in the nose would not appear to be the harsh response that Lavrov was referring to when Putin\u2019s official spokesman Dmtry Peskov clarified Rybakov\u2019s \u201c<i> punch in the nose<\/i>\u201d comment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201c<i>I think our intelligence certainly <\/i><b><i>knows who made a decision<\/i><\/b><i> there (ie the situation with the British destroyer).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But certainly I think such operations are basically <\/i><b><i>planned by senior partners from overseas<\/i><\/b><i>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And President Putin explained that thus some weak spots are sounded out, both in the system of monitoring border integrity and the response system.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This is indeed so.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Was very harsh and it is clear that no provocations should be repeated, the response will be in accordance with the <\/i><b><i>Charter that says \u2018to sink\u2019<\/i><\/b><i>.<\/i>\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">In other words, Peskov, who is Putin\u2019s right hand, is not only suggesting that the US is ultimately responsible for the Black Sea aggression but is also suggesting that upon further provocation, the Russians will sink a ship, presumably with its full crew on board.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Of note, Peskov speaks authoritatively only when he has been authorized to do so by Putin. He does not speak off the cuff or from his own personal opinion. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In other words, the US, UK and NATO have been warned.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">With no coverage in the Mockingbird Media, the American public remains blissfully uninformed.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>What exactly has Russia done in the last forty years to warrant the threat of a nuclear war?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Is the goal of Black Sea aggression to bring \u2018freedom\u2019 and democracy to Russia or is it to \u2018liberate\u2019 the Crimea?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Or is to punish Putin for being a Christian or a nationalist who believes in defending the sovereignty of his own country.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Or perhaps he is not enough of a deep state disciple or perhaps defeating the last remaining Bolsheviks in the 1990s was a fatal error.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">As if no second thoughts had been given to Peskov\u2019s words, Royal Marine Brigadier Mark Totten recently announced for the entire world to know that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/529508-uk-special-forces-russia-china\/?utm_source=Newsletter&amp;utm_medium=Email&amp;utm_campaign=Email\"><span class=\"s3\">UK Special Forces<\/span><\/a> were about to begin new covert \u2018politically treacherous tasks\u2019 including maritime counterterrorist missions that will occur as partnered operations against \u201cbig state adversaries\u201d on \u2018higher risk\u2019 missions. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In other words, Russia is being lured into the Black Sea, daring them to over-react and make a global size error of judgment or to be a strategically placed decoy so they can be blamed for any escalating military action.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>Renee Parsons\u00a0served on the ACLU\u2019s Florida State Board of Directors and as president of the ACLU Treasure Coast Chapter.
