Ron DeSantis\u2019s office said that more than half of those who are seeking\u00a0monoclonal antibody treatment in the south of Florida are \u201cfully vaccinated\u201d individuals amid supply issues.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cMore than half the patients getting the monoclonal antibody treatment in south Florida are fully vaccinated,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw\u00a0<a breakthrough infections.\u00a0<strong>Vaccinated or unvaccinated &#8211; Denying treatment to Covid patients is wrong.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Monoclonal antibodies are engineered\u00a0immune system proteins that boost an immune response against an infection.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/gov.desantis-speaks-e1624729773954-700x420.jpg?itok=ASZcAADv\" the White House and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced plans to control the U.S. monoclonal antibody supply due to distribution issues.<\/strong>\u00a0According to HHS\u2019s website in a Sept. 13\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phe.gov\/emergency\/events\/COVID19\/investigation-MCM\/Bamlanivimab-etesevimab\/Pages\/Update-13Sept21.aspx\">update<\/a>, the agency \u201cwill\u00a0determine the weekly amount of mAb products each state and territory receives based on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-covid-19\">COVID-19<\/a>\u00a0case burden and [monoclonal antibody treatment] utilization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for HHS told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/09\/15\/health\/monoclonal-antibody-treatment-distribution-change-contracts\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0Florida, Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana are using 70 percent of the supply of the drug.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cGiven this reality, we must work to ensure our supply of these life-saving therapies remains available for all states and territories, not just some,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>the HHS spokesperson said, adding that a new system \u201cwill help maintain equitable distribution, both geographically and temporally, across the country \u2026 providing states and territories with consistent, fairly-distributed supply over the coming weeks.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Before the change, states and hospitals could purchase the antibodies on their own without going through the federal government.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>\u201cMore than 50 percent of the monoclonal antibodies that had been used in Florida were going to be reduced,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>DeSantis\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wesh.com\/article\/federal-takeover-monoclonal-antibody-dose\/37627240\">said<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday, adding that\u00a0<strong>\u201cthere\u2019s going to be a huge disruption, and patients are going to suffer as a result of this.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On Thursday, DeSantis\u2019s office said the state would deal directly with GlaxoSmithKline, a maker of monoclonal antibody infusion treatments.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cThe Biden administration and their allies in media have claimed that Florida is using too much monoclonal treatment because of a low vaccination rate,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Pushaw\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/florida-seeking-monoclonal-supplies-from-glaxo-smith-kline_4001723.html\">told<\/a>\u00a0The Epoch
