During that meeting, a number of scientists expressed concern for booster-associated side-effects among younger people and children. As a result, the panel&#8217;s narrower recommendation was, as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/Fauci%20Says%20More%20Data%20Likely%20to%20Support%20Broader\">Bloomberg writes\u00a0<\/a>&#8220;<strong>seen as rebuke to a president whose policy was seen as getting ahead\u00a0<\/strong>of\u00a0<strong><em>the science<\/em>.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For what it&#8217;s worth, Fauci said he did not believe the panel \u201cmade a mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe one thing people need to realize is data are coming in literally on a daily and weekly basis,\u201d he said on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union.\u201d \u201cThey are going to continue to look at this literally in real-time.\u201d In other words, Fauci is confident that with time, new &#8220;science&#8221; will come in to debunk the existing &#8220;science&#8221; which according to public commentary heard during the FDA indicated,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AndySwan\/status\/1439225487679762441\">the Pfizer vaccine kills more people\u00a0<\/a>than it saves.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. James Hildreth, a voting member on the FDA expert panel,\u00a0<strong>said that he has \u201ca serious concern of myocarditis in young people.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Meanwhile, another expert, Dr. Melinda Wharton,\u00a0<strong>said she \u201cnot feel comfortable\u201d with recommending boosters to younger people due to the risk of myocarditis.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fauci&#8217;s view was shared by the head of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, Francis Collins,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/nih-director-collins-believes-pfizer-booster-shots-will-be-expanded-despite-fda-panels-recommendation_4004862.html\">who said he also believes COVID-19 vaccine booster doses will be expanded\u00a0<\/a>despite a panel of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) experts recommending against them for the general population.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview on Sunday morning, Collins, whose agency does not oversee the FDA, said that the booster doses will be approved in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the big news is that they actually did approve the initiation of boosters, and remember they\u2019re taking a snapshot of right now. We\u2019re going to see what happens in the coming weeks,\u201d Collins told \u201cFox News Sunday.\u201d \u201cIt would surprise me if it does not become clear over the next few weeks, that administration of boosters may need to be enlarged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the claim, Collins referenced studies and data published in Israel and the United States, which Pfizer also cited to make its arguments in favor of booster doses to the FDA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased upon the data that we\u2019ve already seen both in the U.S. and in Israel, it\u2019s clear that waning of the effectiveness of those vaccines is a reality, and we need to respond to it,\u201d Collins said, adding that he would be \u201csurprised\u201d if the boosters are not recommended for individuals younger than 65. However, he told the broadcaster that he isn\u2019t sure if \u201cabsolutely everyone\u201d will be recommended to get boosters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a little troubled that people are complaining that the process isn\u2019t working for them,\u201d he said. \u201cThe process is to look at the data have the experts consider it, and then make their best judgment at that point, recognizing that the judgments may change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>* * *<\/p>\n<p>Separately, Fauci also said he expected vaccines for children younger than 12, who aren\u2019t eligible yet, would be evaluated as early as October.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometime in the next few weeks, as we get into October, we\u2019ll be able to see the vaccines for children get enough data to be presented for safety and immunogenicity,\u201d said Fauci.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC authorized shots for children aged 12 and older earlier this year. Some school districts, including the one overseeing public schools in Los Angeles, have made it mandatory for children returning to class to get fully vaccinated. Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla last week said that the firm, which makes one of the most widely used COVID-19 vaccines in the world, will likely release clinical data on vaccines for 6-month-olds to 5-year-olds in October.
