YouTube on Wednesday continued to follow the lead of its evil \u201cdon\u2019t be evil\u201d parent company Google and announced it would be banning videos that contain what it calls \u201cvaccine misinformation.\u201d The statement itself, ironically, contains vaccine misinformation. The announcement came in the form of a\u00a0blog post<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday:<\/p>\n

Working closely with health authorities, we looked to balance our commitment to an open platform with the need to remove egregious harmful content. We\u2019ve steadily seen false claims about the coronavirus vaccines spill over into misinformation about vaccines in general, and we\u2019re now at a point where it\u2019s more important than ever to expand the work we started with COVID-19 to other vaccines.<\/p>\n

Specifically, content that falsely alleges that approved vaccines are dangerous and cause chronic health effects, claims that vaccines do not reduce transmission or contraction of disease, or contains misinformation on the substances contained in vaccines will be removed. This would include content that falsely says that approved vaccines cause autism, cancer or infertility, or that substances in vaccines can track those who receive them. Our policies not only cover specific routine immunizations like for measles or Hepatitis B, but also apply to general statements about vaccines.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The most problematic aspect of YouTube\u2019s statement, beyond the obvious problem of a social media platform engaging in editorial discretion about what speech it will allow, is the passage on \u201cclaims that vaccines do not reduce transmission or contraction of disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, there are numerous datasets, current reports, and statements from public health officials that indicate that not only do Covid-19 \u2018vaccines\u2019 fail to lower the transmissibility of Covid-19, they are actually a major, if not potentially the predominant, conduit of the \u201cDelta variant.\u201d<\/p>\n

A statement from CDC Director Rochelle Walensky in late July had acknowledged the possibility of vaccinated transmission of Covid-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, some of those\u00a0data were published in CDC\u2019s\u00a0Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR)<\/em><\/a>, demonstrating that Delta infection resulted in similarly high SARS-CoV-2 viral loads in vaccinated and unvaccinated people,\u201d the report said. \u201cHigh viral loads suggest an increased risk of transmission and raised concern that, unlike with other variants, vaccinated people infected with Delta can transmit the virus.\u201d<\/p>\n

The CDC Director in March had therefore spread her own \u201cvaccine misinformation\u201d in an interview with MSNBC\u2019s Rachel Maddow.<\/p>\n
