A major storm system\u00a0was pummeling Northern California<\/a>\u00a0and parts of the Pacific Northwest with heavy rains overnight.<\/p>\n

The big picture:<\/strong>\u00a0The “atmospheric river” storms, associated with a record-strong “bomb cyclone” offshore from the Pacific Northwest, have brought flooding and mudslides to parts of California that were razed by recent wildfires and in severe drought. It’s also caused\u00a0widespread power outages<\/a>\u00a0in California and Washington state.<\/p>\n
