US Vice President Kamala Harris has claimed the justice system is not \u201cequitable\u201d in her reaction to the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict. Critics have swiftly dropped reminders of her own record as a prosecutor.<\/p>\n
Harris said in a Friday public statement that there is\u00a0\u201cstill more work to do\u201d<\/em>\u00a0to improve the US justice system, a much harsher reaction than President Joe Biden\u2019s initial comment that he\u00a0\u201cstands by the jury\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and their not-guilty verdict. In a later statement, Biden described himself as\u00a0\u201cangered\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cconcerned\u201d<\/em>\u00a0with the decision by the jury.<\/p>\n Rittenhouse was found innocent on all charges against him this week, which include murder charges stemming from his shooting of three people in Kenosha, Wisconisn in August of 2020, two of whom died. Rittenhouse maintained he acted in self defense, and the jury found him innocent on all counts. The verdict did not sit well with the liberal commenters, many of whom have blasted Rittenhouse as a\u00a0\u201cwhite supremacist,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0despite no evidence presented in favor of that claim during the trial.<\/p>\n Reacting to the verdict, Harris said she had spent the\u00a0\u201cmajority\u201d<\/em>\u00a0of her career trying to\u00a0\u201cmake our criminal justice system more equitable.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s clear,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0the former California senator added,\u00a0\u201cthere\u2019s still a lot more work to do.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
