She now plans to \u201cconfront and address the legality of this,\u201d since the district has made a decision. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has reviewed two books previously contested by parents as pornographic and pedophilic and decided to put them back into the district\u2019s libraries, according to a statement released by FCPS on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>A two month committee review <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcps.edu\/about-fcps\/policies-regulations-and-notices\/school-library-collections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">process<\/a> conducted by FCPS as a result of a \u201cformal challenge\u201d found \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcps.edu\/node\/44881\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gender Queer: A Memoir<\/a>\u201d by Maia Kobabe and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcps.edu\/node\/44882\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lawn Boy<\/a>\u201d by Jonathan Evison appropriate for high schoolers, according to the FCPS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcps.edu\/news\/fcps-reinstates-two-books-reaffirming-commitment-supporting-diversity-literature\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The books will be put back in the school system\u2019s libraries, which were removed in September after Stacy Langton, a FCPS mom <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/24\/fairfax-county-public-school-mother-child-porn-pedophilia-books-library\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">went to a Sept. 23 school board meeting<\/a> and denounced the nature of the books.<\/p>\n<p>Langton previously told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the books depicted pedophilia and sex between men and boys, including one book that showed a fourth-grade boy performing oral sex on what appears to be an adult male.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease describe to me what do you call this image of the adult bearded male with an erect penis fondling the genitalia of the child male? What is that?\u201d Langton said in response to the district\u2019s decision to the Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cHe\u2019s twice the size of the other character too. And I mean his erect penis is also twice the size of the boy\u2019s penis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Langton said she somehow expected the district \u201ccould do the right thing\u201d but \u201cit\u2019s clear to me now, they have no intention of doing the right thing about this.\u201d \u201cThis is about an agenda they\u2019re pushing and they\u2019re not interested in protecting kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe other book has detailed illustrations of a man having sex with a boy,\u201d Langton said to the school board in September while she unfolded copies of the illustrations. \u201cThe illustrations include fellatio, sex toys, masturbation and violent nudity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The board cut her off before her time was up and turned off her microphone, but she shouted that the board members were in violation of the law of Virginia, citing Virginia Code section <a href=\"https:\/\/law.lis.virginia.gov\/vacode\/title18.2\/chapter8\/section18.2-376\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">18.2-376<\/a>, which says it is \u201cunlawful for any person knowingly to prepare, print, publish, or circulate, or cause to be prepared, printed, published or circulated, any notice or advertisement of any obscene item proscribed in \u00a7 <a href=\"http:\/\/law.lis.virginia.gov\/vacode\/18.2-373\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">18.2-373<\/a>, or of any obscene performance or exhibition proscribed in \u00a7 <a href=\"http:\/\/law.lis.virginia.gov\/vacode\/18.2-375\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">18.2-375<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the district received the formal complaint, two different committees of school administrators, librarians, parents and students were formed to examine and consider the books as \u201coptional independent reading material\u201d for high school students.<\/p>\n<p>Langton discovered the two books could be found at FCPS\u2019s Robinson Secondary School, where students as young as 12 could access them.<\/p>\n<p>She told the DCNF that she plans to continue the process and appeal the district\u2019s decision and \u201ccontinue talking about how FCPS is in favor of porn in schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also filed a police report following the Sept. 23 school board meeting, but the police said FCPS needed to conduct its own investigation first, but she plans to \u201cconfront and address the legality of this,\u201d now that the district has made a decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would love to know who\u2019s on that committee because you know, now the police can be involved, because it\u2019s against the law,\u201d said FCPS parent Thyra Cox. \u201cIt\u2019s child pornography and it\u2019s explicit material. This is a war against innocence. It\u2019s degrading for one thing. It breaks boundaries with children, it\u2019s child abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe school board is now officially groomers,\u201d she added. \u201cThey\u2019re all child sexual groomers and they\u2019re also degenerates. I have had it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The district called the books \u201chighly regarded\u201d and \u201caward-winning\u201d and the review committee said it found no pedophilia present in \u201cLawn Boy\u201d and added that \u201cGender Queer\u201d neither depicts nor describes pedophilia, according to the district\u2019s statement. The review committees \u201cunanimously recommended that the books should remain available.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7326550\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7326550 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn01.dailycaller.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Courtesy-of-Stacy-Langton-3-620x530.jpg\" alt=\"Courtesy of Stacy Langton\" width=\"620\" height=\"530\" data-src=\"https:\/\/cdn01.dailycaller.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Courtesy-of-Stacy-Langton-3-620x530.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Courtesy of Stacy Langton<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe decision reaffirms FCPS\u2019 ongoing commitment to provide diverse reading materials that reflect our student population, allowing every child an opportunity to see themselves reflected in literary characters,\u201d the statement said. \u201cBoth reviews concluded that the books were valuable in their potential to reach marginalized youth who may struggle to find relatable literary characters that reflect their personal journeys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The final decision to put the books back in LCPS\u2019 libraries was made by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcps.edu\/staff\/noel-klimenko\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Noel Klimenko<\/a>, the assistant superintendent of the Instructional Services Department, according to the review process outlined by <a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/go.boarddocs.com\/vsba\/fairfax\/Board.nsf\/files\/C2BQFE68F029\/%24file\/R3009.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\" data-extlink=\"\">FCPS Regulation 3009<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am satisfied that the books were selected according to FCPS regulations and are appropriate to include in libraries that serve high school students,\u201d Klimenko said in the statement.\u201d Both books have value beyond their pages for students who may struggle to find relatable stories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FCPS said it \u201cconsidered whether the books flouted regulations by being obscene or harmful to juveniles as defined by the Code of Virginia\u201d and \u201cthe FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook pertaining to possessing obscene visual imagery as defined in the Code of Virginia,\u201d which it said neither book violated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLawn Boy,\u201d which \u201cappears in the catalogue of 11 FCPS high schools\u201d is an \u201cuplifting\u201d depiction that \u201cpaints a portrait of the substantial obstacles faced by those who are marginalized by society\u201d who realize they are \u201cnot alone as they experience similar systemic challenges and societal prejudices,\u201d according to the book review.<\/p>\n<p>The committee also determined \u201cGender Queer: A Memoir\u201d which \u201cappears in the catalogue of seven high schools\u201d is a \u201cwell-written, scientifically based narrative\u201d that depicts \u201cthe difficulties nonbinary and asexual individuals may face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parents can visit their student\u2019s school library if they make an appointment ahead of time and following visitor protocol, the statement said.
