Originally the Buffett Foundation, STBF was renamed by the billionaire in honor of his wife after she died in 2004.
STBF is currently ranked #14 in the Top 100 U.S. Foundations by Total Giving. STBF’s focus is population control. According to Buffett biographer Roger Lowenstein, Buffett has a “Malthusian dread that overpopulation [will] aggravate problems in all other areas – such as food, housing, even human survival.”

Melinda Gates vowed this week that she will not give up her goal to provide family planning access to 120 million women world-wide by 2020.
The Kansas City Star reports the Family Planning 2020 summit, which receives support from the Gates Foundation, is falling behind on its 2012 pledge to provide contraception to 120 million women in the next eight years.
“As of the halfway point in July 2016, we had reached 24 million additional women with family planning services,” Gates wrote in an op-ed for National Geographic recently. “It was an ambitious but achievable goal — and an important promise to women in the world’s poorest places that they will not be forgotten.”
The Gates Foundation has been funneling money into global programs promoting population control and abortion after the 2012 London summit warned that international family planning goals are not being met. LifeNews

Ted Turner, founder of the Cable News Network, believes that there are “too many people” in the world and that they harm the environment. In a 1997 interview with the Village Voice, Turner said that humanity can be dumb “and go to extinction like the dodo. Or we can be real smart and intelligent, and progress to a brave new world.” Turner, who has five children, made a startling proposal: “What we need to have for 100 years is a one-child policy….If everybody voluntarily had one child for 100 years, we’d basically be back to two billion people…”Writers Paul and Anne Ehrlich, of “population bomb” fame, had told him years earlier that roughly two billion would be an ideal population for the world.
Now Turner is putting up serious money to advance population control through the United Nations. Soon after the Village Voice interview, he announced a gift of one billion dollars to the U.N. The money is supposed to promote peace and children’s health and to help poor people, but also to restrain population growth. Grants are to be given over a period of 10 years, through a new foundation that Turner controls. US ENDS FUNDING FOR UNITED NATIONS POPULATION FUND
The state department has announced it is ending US funding for the United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA), the international body’s agency focused on family planning as well as maternal and child health in more than 150 countries.

The state department said it was withholding $32.5m in funding for the fiscal year of 2017 because the UNFPA “supports, or participates in the management of, a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization”.
The cut marks US President Donald Trump’s first move to curtail funding for the United Nations and is likely to raise further questions about how deep those cuts will eventually go throughout the organization, where the United States is the top donor.
It comes after Trump in January reinstated the so-called Mexico City Policy that withholds US funding for international organisations that perform abortions or provide information about abortion. Aljeezra

International Projects Assistance Services (IPAS), based in Carrboro, N.C., manufactures a handheld suction pump used in developing countries to initiate abortions. The Buffett Foundation has backed IPAS for years. Its 1999 contribution of $2.5 million is part of a five-year, $20 million commitment that will enable IPAS to double its capacity.
