Yayla, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/339774401_Try_Erdogan_at_the_International_Criminal_Court_for_Enabling_ISIS\"><span class=\"s2\">acknowledged<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in 2020 that \u201cTurkey was a central hub for &#8230; over 50,000 ISIS foreign fighters, and the\u00a0main source of ISIS logistical materials [including] IEDs, making Turkey and ISIS practically allies.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s1\">Terrorism expert\/State Department adviser <a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanrightscolumbia.org\/peace-building\/phillips-commentaries\"><span class=\"s2\">Dr. David L. Phillips<\/span><\/a> directs Columbia University\u2019s Peace-building and Human Rights Program.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It has confirmed Turkey\u2019s alliance with ISIS:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/research-paper-isis-turke_b_6128950\"><span class=\"s2\">ISIS-Turkey Links<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(2014) and\u00a0<a officials \u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/09\/14\/world\/middleeast\/struggling-to-starve-isis-of-oil-revenue-us-seeks-assistance-from-turkey.html\"><span class=\"s2\">track<\/span><\/a> ISIS oil shipments \u2026 into Turkey,\u201d [which has] failed \u201cto help choke off the oil trade.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s1\">In\u00a0<a class=\"s2\">Turkey: A State Sponsor of Terrorism?<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(2021), Phillips again documents Ankara\u2019s patronage of terrorists.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>If a \u201cnon-NATO country behaved like Turkey, it would warrant designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism,\u201d like Iran and North Korea.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s1\">The U.S. State and Treasury Departments (2021) say Turkey is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/the-united-states-designates-isis-financial-facilitators\/\"><span class=\"s2\">financial hub<\/span><\/a> for ISIS\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilsoncenter.org\/article\/us-sanctions-isis-financial-network\"><span class=\"s2\">al-Qaeda<\/span><\/a>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yet Washington has penalized only a few Turkish individuals and companies, with minimal effect.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s1\">In 2020, Turkey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/stories-55238803\"><span class=\"s2\">transported<\/span><\/a>\u00a0thousands of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/armenian.usc.edu\/turkish-syrian-mercenary-groups-in-karabakh-fighting-a-compilation\/\"><span class=\"s2\">terrorist<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/akmckeever.com\/2020\/10\/26\/sna-mercenaries-in-azerbaijan-the-visual-evidence\/\"><span class=\"s2\">mercenaries<\/span><\/a> to Azerbaijan to attack Armenian-populated Artsakh\/Nagorno-Karabagh and Armenia.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>These included war criminal and former ISIS commander\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/armenia-azerbaijan-accuse-each-other-of-cross-border-attacks-civilian-toll-climbs\"><span class=\"s2\">Sayf Balud<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanrightscolumbia.org\/peace-building\/perpetrators\"><span class=\"s2\">commanders of the Sultan Murad Brigade<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u2014 several of them murderers and rapists.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">So why aren\u2019t the U.S.\/NATO\/EU exposing Turkey\u2019s terrorism hypocrisy over Finland\/Sweden?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">Partly because America and Europe are schizophrenic about ISIS and similar groups.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>America\u2019s Phony Global War on Terrorism<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">While the West loudly condemns and occasionally battles such groups, it sometimes deems them to be militarily useful.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">The State Department, for instance, <i>quietly <\/i>wants <a href=\"https:\/\/tfipost.com\/2019\/12\/a-president-or-an-is-operative-erdogans-relations-with-isis-proxies-exposed-by-french-prez-macron\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Turkish-backed terrorists<\/span><\/a> (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2019\/10\/14\/turkish-backed-forces-freeing-islamic-state-prisoners-syria\/\"><span class=\"s2\">The Free Syrian Army (FSA)\/Syrian National Army (SNA)<\/span><\/a>) to help depose President Assad and push Russia out of Syria.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There\u2019s no other explanation for our nation\u2019s tolerance of Ankara\u2019s terrorist sponsorships.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Assad is also aligned with Shiite powers that America loathes: Iran and Hezbollah.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2018The enemy (Turkish-backed terrorists) of our (America\u2019s) enemies (Assad\/Russia\/Iran\/Hezbollah) is our friend.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">Thus, America <a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanrightscolumbia.org\/publications\/grotesque-savagery-turkeys-mercenaries\"><span class=\"s2\">repeatedly<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/hawarnews.com\/en\/haber\/how-isis-turned-into-the-syrian-national-army-h12627.html\"><span class=\"s2\">ignores<\/span><\/a> Turkey\u2019s support of terrorists and its invasions, occupation, and ethnic cleansing of northern Syria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">The U.S. dislikes, however, Turkey\u2019s targeting the pro-American, anti-ISIS, Kurdish YPG in Syria.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Turkey insists that the YPG is an arm of the PKK.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>However, America usually lets Ankara <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2019\/10\/14\/turkish-backed-forces-freeing-islamic-state-prisoners-syria\/\"><span class=\"s2\">have its way<\/span><\/a> with Kurds anyway.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">Elsewhere, <a href=\"https:\/\/pallone.house.gov\/sites\/pallone.house.gov\/files\/20210201%2520Armenian%2520Caucus%2520Letter%2520to%2520Administration.pdf\"><span class=\"s2\">the U.S. House<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azatutyun.am\/a\/31063486.html\"><span class=\"s2\">European Parliament<\/span><\/a> criticized Turkey\u2019s using terrorists against Armenians in 2020.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yet the West took no action against Turkey because Armenia, a Russian ally, lost the war.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This advanced America\u2019s and NATO\u2019s strategy of penetrating the Caucasus.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">In 2021, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee openly quizzed Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland about Turkey\u2019s deploying terrorists in Azerbaijan.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>She refused to answer in public, again unmasking Washington\u2019s tacit support for Turkish-backed terrorists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">Even when America and Europe genuinely disagree with Ankara\u2019s demands\/threats, they rarely push back with their <i>own<\/i> counter-demands\/counter-threats.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Western Submissiveness<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Turkey\u2019s nonstop, unhinged temper tantrums have always psychologically disarmed the West.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Turks know that and exploit it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">And, despite the boasts of pro-Turkish sycophants, Turkey is <i>not<\/i> more important, and certainly not more powerful, than the U.S.\/NATO\/EU.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">Instead of pushing back against Turkey over the Finland\/Sweden fuss, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg spinelessly implores us to empathize with Ankara\u2019s demands.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Meanwhile, Finnish and Swedish delegations have scampered off to Ankara to prostrate themselves before His Royal Highness, King Erdogan. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">American Enterprise Institute Senior Fellow Dr. Michael Rubin suggests <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aei.org\/op-eds\/turkey-wants-a-bribe-for-allowing-sweden-and-finland-to-join-nato\/\"><span class=\"s2\">instead<\/span><\/a> that NATO threaten to ban Turkish Airlines, hurt Turkey\u2019s already battered economy, and legitimately withhold certain classified documents\/intelligence from Ankara.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">Only rarely does the West counter Turkish mischief.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Turkey has been \u2014 temporarily, anyway \u2014 kicked out of America\u2019s F-35 jet program because it bought Russia\u2019s S-400 missiles.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Also, by applying economic penalties on Turkey, Washington won Pastor Andrew Brunson\u2019s release in 2018.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But these happened only because the Pentagon unequivocally insisted on it and because Evangelicals pressured the White House.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">Whether it\u2019s Turkey threatening Greek islands, making illegitimate claims over Mediterranean Sea energy deposits, threatening to release millions of Syrian refugees into Europe, or countless other examples of bullying, Western capitals habitually appease Ankara.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">Why should our (and NATO\u2019s) servicemen and servicewomen spill their blood fighting a largely phony Global War on Terrorism, especially when NATO member Turkey outright supports terrorism?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">Frankly, when it comes to Turkey, Western countries behave like weaklings.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>What\u2019s more, they don\u2019t even realize it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">Welcome again to <i>bizarro world<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"
