Dailey files elections complaints against Dozier alleging ‘shady’ dark money mailers<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Mayor John Dailey<\/a>\u00a0has filed elections complaints\u00a0against his re-election opponent,\u00a0Kristin Dozier<\/a>, claiming she got help from a \u201cdark money campaign\u201d that intended to mislead voters with an attack mailer.<\/p>\n

Filed with the Florida Elections Commission Wednesday, the complaints target\u00a0alleged electioneering coordination\u00a0by Dozier\u2019s campaign and a political action committee that isn\u2019t registered with the state.<\/p>\n

The mailers were sent by a group calling itself \u201cSave Our City,\u201d which is not registered with the Florida Department of State’s Division of Elections. A PAC with a similar sounding name, \u201cSaving Our City PC,\u201d is registered\u00a0but doesn\u2019t list any contributions or expenditures since it was created on July 12.<\/p>\n

During a press conference in front of the Election Commission\u2019s Gaines Street offices Wednesday, Dailey pointed to\u00a0\u201cshady and improper tactics.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKristin Dozier\u2019s campaign and at least one dark money political committee appear to have engaged in improper election activity in an attempt to influence your vote and put her in the mayor\u2019s office,\u201d Dailey told reporters.<\/p>\n

The complaints, which have\u00a0yet to be investigated, allege\u00a0that Dozier and\u00a0the PAC coordinated to hide their money trail.<\/p>\n

\u201cEither way, the effect was to prevent the public from being able to review their expenditures and support of the Dozier campaign and to prevent the public from knowing who is spending thousands of dollars to influence your vote,\u201d Dailey continued after taking swipes at what he said was a pattern of unethical behavior by Dozier.<\/p>\n
