PayPal can now steal up to $2,500.00 from account holders per &#8216;speech&#8217; violation<\/b><\/h2>"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>PayPal goes full 1984 in November\u2026<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->Investment Watch<\/p>\n<p>On the heels of its censorship spree in the UK \u2013 that received backlash so great it got the attention of lawmakers \u2013 PayPal is rolling out a new agreement that gives itself more censorship powers and the ability to strip income from those who don\u2019t abide to its speech rules.<\/p>\n<p>Violation of the \u201cAcceptable Use Policy constitutes a violation of the PayPal User Agreement and may subject you to damages, including liquidated damages of $2,500.00 U.S. dollars per violation,\u201d PayPal writes.<\/p>\n<p>PayPal\u2019s clause about taking users\u2019 funds for a violation of its rules has long been established. But, as published on September 26th and to be effective on November 3rd, 2022, PayPal will add restrictions to its acceptable use policy that go beyond illegal activities and fraud and into the realm of policing speech.<\/p>\n<p>The updated policy prohibits users from using PayPal for activities that:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvolve the sending, posting, or publication of any messages, content, or materials that, in PayPal\u2019s sole discretion, (a) are harmful, obscene, harassing, or objectionable \u2026 (e) depict, promote, or incite hatred or discrimination of protected groups or of individuals or groups based on protected characteristics (e.g. race, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, etc.) \u2026 (g) are fraudulent, promote misinformation \u2026 or (i) are otherwise unfit for publication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"autohyperlink\" href=\"https:\/\/reclaimthenet.org\/paypal-to-expand-its-speech-restriction-rules\/\">reclaimthenet.org\/paypal-to-expand-its-speech-restriction-rules\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Policy Updates<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"autohyperlink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paypal.com\/us\/webapps\/mpp\/ua\/upcoming-policies-full\">www.paypal.com\/us\/webapps\/mpp\/ua\/upcoming-policies-full<\/a><\/p>\n<p>PFD:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"autohyperlink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paypalobjects.com\/marketing\/ua\/pdf\/US\/en\/acceptableuse-full-110322.pdf\">www.paypalobjects.com\/marketing\/ua\/pdf\/US\/en\/acceptableuse-full-110322.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u2018The Free Speech Union will be lobbying the Government to put new laws in place to stop companies like\u00a0<b>PayPal<\/b>\u00a0from withdrawing their services from individuals and organisations who say something perfectly lawful but which\u00a0<u>their employees disagree with<\/u>.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The account contained \u00a3600 and PayPal said it would hold the money for up to 180 days.
