For the first time in US history, a total lunar eclipse will take place on election day, beginning and ending before the polling stations open. The next time a total lunar eclipse will happen on election day will be in\u00a0372 years on Tuesday, November 8, 2394.<\/p>\n
The eclipse will begin at 5:16 a.m. EST and ends at 6:41 a.m., for a total duration of about 85 minutes.<\/p>\n
According to constitutional stipulations, elections are held on \u201cthe Tuesday next after the first Monday in the month of November\u201d and must fall on even-numbered years. That means election days always fall on November 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8.<\/p>\n
There was a lunar eclipse on election day,\u00a0 Tuesday, November 3, 1846, but it wasn\u2019t total. Instead, it was a rather shallow penumbral lunar eclipse, in which the full moon completely missed the Earth\u2019s inner, dark shadow, and passed through the Earth\u2019s outer, faint penumbral shadow.<\/p>\n
A lunar eclipse takes place when the earth is between the sun and the moon, and the moon passes through the earth\u2019s shadow. In this case, the earth\u2019s shadow will block out 97% of the moon\u2019s surface. This eclipse will be a\u00a0\u201cblood moon<\/a>\u201d, the result of atmospheric conditions that give the moon a reddish tint rather than black when it moves into the shadow. The red color comes from some of the sunlight passing through Earth\u2019s atmosphere where it gets bent and colors like blue or green are filtered out, leaving behind longer wavelengths like the color red.<\/p>\n The Epoch Times<\/i><\/a>, a conservative news site, ascribed political significance to the lunar hue.<\/p>\n \u201cThus the factors have aligned\u2014both cosmic and constitutional\u2014to manifest a red moon hours before what many predict could be a red wave, they wrote.<\/p>\n This will be the second lunar eclipse this year, the first one taking place on May 16, 2022. There won\u2019t be another total lunar eclipse until March 14, 2025.<\/p>\n This full moon also marks the moon\u2019s arrival at its apogee, the point along the lunar elliptical orbit where it\u2019s furthest from Earth. It will thus appear its smallest, seen from the vantage point of the Earth.<\/p>\n Rabbi\u00a0Mordechai Genuth<\/a>\u00a0discussed the meaning of eclipses in Jewish tradition, explaining that under normal circumstances, lunar eclipses are considered a bad omen for Israel. This is based on a section in the Talmud (Sukkot 29a) that specifies that lunar eclipses are a bad omen for Israel since Israel is spiritually represented by the moon. If the lunar eclipse takes place in the east side of the heavens, then it is a bad omen for all the nations in the east, and similarly, if it occurs in the western hemisphere of the sky, it is a bad sign for all the nations in the west.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the time of the Talmud, only Israel set the calendar according to the moon,\u201d Rabbi Genuth said. \u201cSetting the calendar according to the sun was the practice of the idolaters, like Rome which named the solar months and days after pagan gods. Today, the Muslims set their calendar according to the moon, even more than the Jews, in a manner that leads their calendar to be imbalanced. So a lunar eclipse is closely connected to the Muslims and, in this case, is a warning for the Arabs.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe eclipse will pass over the United States,\u201d Rabbi Genuth said. \u201cThe President is connecting his fate with that of the Arabs, choosing them over Israel. He is choosing war, the wars that originate in Ishmael, the wars that are presaged by the upcoming blood moon.\u201d<\/p>\n Rabbi Genuth made one disclaimer; at the end of the section of the Talmud describing the omens contained within eclipses, the Talmud states: \u201cWhen Israel does the will of the place (God), they have nothing to fear from all of this,\u201d citing the Prophet Jeremiah as a source.<\/p>\n Thus said Hashem: Do not learn to go the way of the nations, And do not be dismayed by portents in the sky; Let the nations be dismayed by them! Jeremiah 10:2<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Rabbi Genuth referred to\u00a0pressure by the Biden administration to open a consulate<\/a>\u00a0to the Palestinians in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is also a warning to the incoming Israeli government,\u201d Rabbi Genuth said. \u201cThey need to be strong when it comes to Jerusalem.\u201d<\/p>\n He noted that Prime Minister Yair Lapid told Arab media that he would not permit Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount. Rabbi Genuth explained that the name of Jerusalem is rooted in the Hebrew word \u201cShalem\u201d (complete) which is a reference to the sun which, unlike the moon, does not go through phases.<\/p>\n \u201cJerusalem is eternal and must remain eternally whole,\u201d Rabbi Genuth said. \u201cThe Biden administration is committed to the two-state solution which would establish an Arab capital in Jerusalem.\u201d<\/p>\n The rabbi also noted a prophecy in the Book of Joel that indicates that the coming of the Messiah will be preceded by a blood moon.<\/p>\n Before the great and terrible day of Hashem comes, I will set portents in the sky and on earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke; The sun shall turn into darkness And the moon into blood. But everyone who invokes the name of Hashem shall escape; for there shall be a remnant on Mount\u00a0Tzion<\/a>\u00a0and in\u00a0Yerushalayim<\/a>, as Hashem promised. Anyone who invokes Hashem will be among the survivors.\u00a0Joel 3:3-5<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u201cWe are indeed close to the end of days so these astronomical signs are taking on increased importance,\u201d Rabbi Genuth said.<\/p>\n Rabbi Yosef Berger, the rabbi of King David\u2019s Tomb in Jerusalem, noted that by hiding the moon, \u201cGod is emphasizing the confusion in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe sun represents the masculine and the moon represents the feminine,\u201d Rabbi Berger said.\u201dA person who cannot tell the difference between a man and a woman is a person who cannot tell the difference between the sun and the moon.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBut hiding the moon shows that the situation is going to get even more confused. The non-Jews have to begin to uphold the Seven Noahide Laws. They are holding elections but the only mandate the government has is through the Bible and the Noahide Laws. This includes the prohibition against sexual perversion. They are also prohibited from spilling blood which now the government is trying to mandate through abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOne of the Noahide Laws is also to establish courts,\u201d Rabbi Berger said. \u201cIf the police and the FBI are not upholding the law then they are not upholding the Bible.\u201d<\/p>\n
