Red Wave in Colorado<\/h2>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->By Renee Parsons<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While the Red Wave of America First elections was eagerly anticipated in many parts of the country, there was little to no such anticipation in much of Colorado. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Thanks, to some extent, to the recreational marijuana <a href=\"https:\/\/www.koaa.com\/news\/election-watch\/marijuana-on-the-ballot-in-southern-colorado\"><span class=\"s2\">ballot initiative<\/span><\/a> that was approved by Colorado voters a decade ago. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The aftermath of the initiative forever altered the state\u2019s political constituency and its population with the arrival of a generation of homeless, mostly indigent wretches as well as a generation of baby boomer potheads. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The influx of those immigrants destroyed Colorado as a bona fide red state as well as its western values of self government and independent thinkings. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>What has morphed in its place is a population of progressive Marxist blue state lovers of Black Lives Matter, Antifa and Critical Race Theory teachings which many school districts have banned.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">So far, no drag queens have yet appeared in the children\u2019s section of the public library.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Meanwhile, there was no discernible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/articles\/jared-polis-easily-beats-heidi-ganahl-to-secure-second-term-as-colorados-governor\/\"><span class=\"s2\">red wave<\/span><\/a> in Colorado where Unaffiliated voters (1,736,967) surpass the Democratic party\u2019s political edge (1,058,592), even as the Dems retain their electoral dominance, holding onto notable statewide elected positions.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As of November 1<\/span><span class=\"s3\"><sup>st<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\">, there were 940,970 registered Republicans in Colorado.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>During the 2022 midterm elections with a 55% voter turn out,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>2.1 million voters cast their ballots, out of a total of 3.8 million active voters. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There is, however, no public record yet of how the three party affiliations voted in the 2022 mid term. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the gubernatorial race, dot.com millionaire incumbent Democrat Jared Polis who paid no taxes (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpr.org\/2021\/11\/04\/interview-polis-who-paid-no-federal-income-tax-for-three-years-says-the-rich-are-being-taxed-the-wrong-way\/\"><span class=\"s2\">2013 \u2013 2015<\/span><\/a>) was re-elected with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/articles\/jared-polis-easily-beats-heidi-ganahl-to-secure-second-term-as-colorados-governor\/\"><span class=\"s2\">61%<\/span><\/a> of the vote while<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Republican challenger Heidi Ganahl received 37%. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Polis was well known as a former US Representative (D-Co) and member of the Gang of Four which is described in \u201c<i>The Blueprint: How the Democrats Won Colorado.\u201d<\/i><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Elected to statewide office in the past as a member of the University of Colorado\u2019s Board of Regents, Ganahl avoided the hot button issue of whether the 2020 election was legitimate and was unable to exhibit the necessary mojo to carry her into the Governor\u2019s mansion.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>While she endorsed cutting the state\u2019s .22$ per gallon gas tax in half, eliminating the state\u2019s income tax and disclosing Polis\u2019 masquerade of \u2018fees\u2019 which were in reality regulatory taxes, she was unable to convince voters. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In addition, while the elevated toxicity of fentanyl in Colorado has tragically shattered the lives of many families and the state\u2019s mostly young population, Ganahl missed the opportunity to beat Polis over the head with his failure of<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><b>twice<\/b> supporting legislation approved by a pathetically weak Democratic State Assembly to maintain fentanyl as a misdemeanor.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>She failed to put the state\u2019s onerous and unnecessary covid mandates at his feet or to clearly focus a strong position on the parent\u2019s right issue. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On the Colorado Senate race,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Democratic nothing-burger incumbent Senator Michael Bennett was <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradosun.com\/2022\/11\/08\/michael-bennet-joe-odea-us-senate-results\/\"><span class=\"s2\">re elected<\/span><\/a> with 58% as Republican <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/gop-senate-candidate-joe-o-204514875.html\"><span class=\"s2\">anti-Trumper<\/span><\/a> Joe Odea received<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>40% of the vote. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Odea, who was not a Republican party stalwart, avoided the caucus route in order to secure the Republican nomination for the Senate.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He never participated as a candidate in any of the local, county or state caucus meetings and instead hired a team to circulate petitions to obtain the necessary signatures for a spot on the primary ballot.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As a millionaire<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>construction contractor, Odea ran a well funded primary campaign and beat the one state legislative candidate who survived the state caucus meetings.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">With little relationship to the Republican party machine, such as it exists, Odea displayed a shocking lack of political savvy or sensitivity to the rank and file Republicans across the state. Early on, after he had won the primary, he let it be known that he was not a supporter of former President Donald Trump.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As if to reiterate his \u2018<i>independence<\/i>,\u2019 Odea, in an example of providing too much information, later announced that he would not support Trump if he were the 2024 nominee for President. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Since Trump received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/election\/2020\/results\/state\/colorado\"><span class=\"s2\">1.3 million<\/span><\/a> Colorado votes in 2020, it would have been smart for Odea to keep his political likes\/dislikes to himself until after the election. As former NJ Governor Chris Christie stepped in to announce his support for Odea and that he expected an election day upset in Odea\u2019s favor, there was the hint of a Rino political agenda shaping up that did not sit well with many Rocky Mountain State Republicans.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Trump responded by requesting his Colorado supporters to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/18\/trump-trashed-colorados-republican-senate-nominee-joe-odea-but-odea-asked-for-it\/\"><span class=\"s2\">not vote<\/span><\/a> for Odea. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Needless to say, Odea was soundly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/search?q=Colorado+Senate+election+results+&amp;form=MSNSB1&amp;refig=0580108a53dc482387424473650f1a17&amp;mkt=en-us\"><span class=\"s2\">defeated<\/span><\/a>; thus avoiding an unnecessary internecine party quarrel that was all too predictable given Odea\u2019s lack of discretion. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It may be expected that Odea will not be heard from any time soon.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Shock of the mid term election evening was former Aspen Mayor Adam Frisch\u2019s near upset of Representative Lauren Boebert who was mostly assumed to cruise to an easy victory in <a href=\"https:\/\/results.enr.clarityelections.com\/CO\/115903\/web.307039\/#\/detail\/130\"><span class=\"s2\">Congressional District 3<\/span><\/a>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Instead, with a Democrat surprise of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/voting\/how-u-s--elections-work\/ballot-harvesting--what-is-it--how-does-it-work-.html\"><span class=\"s2\">ballot harvesting<\/span><\/a> rather than the old fashioned way of winning votes on election day, Boebert nearly became electoral toast.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Thanks to building up a significant wide margin of support, as occurred in Arizona and Nevada,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>America First candidates like Lauren were able to withstand the Dems earlier ballot collection that could have spelled campaign doom.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The use of ballot harvesting also frequently causes a delay in \u2018vote\u2019 counting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As of this writing, Lauren has<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> taken the lead<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> by over 1000 votes as ballots continue to arrive.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Given Frisch\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coloradopolitics.com\/elections\/lauren-boebert-overtakes-adam-frisch-in-colorados-3rd-cd\/article_c574da04-5fa2-11ed-90d8-a70480ddb206.html\"><span class=\"s2\">sex scandal<\/span><\/a> that was revealed some weeks ago, it is expected that he will, tempting though it may be, forego a recount that may dredge up past personal monkey-business.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In summary, the Colorado Republican Party apparatus would benefit from not just rebuilding the party from a status quo group of milque toasters who consistently lose elections but to dare make the shift to put America First issues at the forefront of other (sometimes) frivolous pursuits.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The State would benefit from avoiding being dismissed as a collective bunch of drugsters by initiating a major reform of its current electoral system.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>That system could require in-person and same day voting with an id and a paper ballot required as well as initiate a state law to join other states which have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/illinois-midterm-election-2022\/is-election-day-a-federal-holiday\/2987844\/\"><span class=\"s2\">already declare<\/span><\/a> election day as a state holiday; thereby removing many, if not all, vote corruption opportunities.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Renee Parsons\u00a0served on the once prestigious ACLU\u2019s Florida State Board of Directors and as president of the ACLU Treasure Coast Chapter.
