Update (1130ET):<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Kevin McCarthy and his allies\u00a0are actively discussing adjourning the House until Thursday<\/strong>, but might not even have the votes to pull\u00a0that<\/em>\u00a0off,\u00a0CNN<\/em><\/a>\u00a0reports, citing multiple sources.<\/p>\n

McCarthy and crew are worried that\u00a0they could lose more votes if they go to a fourth ballot<\/strong>, which would completely undermine their claims of regaining momentum.<\/p>\n

In order to adjourn the House, however, they need 218 votes –\u00a0which they don’t have<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Their hope is that furious negotiations that have happened since yesterday evening through this morning have peeled away some of the no-votes and given McCarthy forward momentum ahead of a critical fourth ballot. But, he is still unlikely to get 218 votes on that ballot to win the speakership.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Here’s why a vote to adjourn might fail:<\/strong>\u00a0Voting to adjourn would require 218 votes, and Democratic sources say they would actively whip against a motion to adjourn. Plus some Republicans will likely vote against it as well. -CNN<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

If they can’t adjourn, the vote goes to a fourth ballot.<\/p>\n

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), meanwhile,\u00a0called Trump’s endorsement of McCarthy “Sad!<\/a>”\u00a0<\/strong>in a Wednesday statement to\u00a0Fox News,<\/em>\u00a0adding “This changes neither my view of McCarthy, nor Trump, nor my vote.”<\/p>\n

Oh – and the Democrats are about to pour salt in McCarthy’s wound if he tries to adjourn.<\/p>\n
