More Evidence To Support My Thesis That Davos Is A Fizzle<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Morose Reuters Reporter: “Some Key Leaders With The Most Power To Change The World Are Absent,” Notably Joe Biden<\/h3>\n

I wrote this <\/a>earlier today, declaring the (beginning of the) end of the Davos cult.<\/p>\n

I checked in on the Davos beat on Twitter and found this ashen, disconsolate Reuters reporter whose story<\/em> is that the power players who have \u201cshowed up in the past\u201d are all \u201cmissing\u201d this year. Judging from her flat tone, and the text she is reading, she could be reporting on the upgraded equipment of a local dentist\u2019s clinic.<\/p>\n

She is about tha<\/em>t excited.<\/p>\n

Who wrote the text? If she wrote it, she gets an F in my imaginary journalism class!<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not a story.<\/em><\/p>\n

Once upon a time, reporters were sent to these things (I used to be sent to AIDS conferences) and had to file a story.<\/em> That means fi<\/em>nd one. If you don\u2019t find one, pray for one. If you still don\u2019t find one, don\u2019t come home. (Definitely do not invent one\u2014no.)<\/p>\n

It was a profession that once based itself on story<\/em>\u2014the unusual, the shocking, the odd, the charming, the \u201chuman interest\u201d or the what-have-you.<\/p>\n

But this reporter\u2019s report\u2026is\u2026funereal. With pretty snow in the background.<\/p>\n

A) There is no story and B) the story is<\/em> that there is no story.<\/p>\n

Nobody\u2019s really there.<\/p>\n

Nobody who, according to Ms. Reuters, really matters.<\/p>\n

And clearly, the fact that Joe Biden isn\u2019t there is making them all bristle with irritation. That seems like what Ed Dowd would call \u201ca tell.\u201d<\/p>\n

So at present, although I am aware I am prone to excessive optimism, I think I might be right: Davos is a massive dud, which bodes well for Team Human.<\/p>\n
