{"id":163330,"date":"2023-04-10T08:48:49","date_gmt":"2023-04-10T12:48:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=163330"},"modified":"2023-04-10T08:48:49","modified_gmt":"2023-04-10T12:48:49","slug":"beware-assault-weapon-ban-passes-wa-senate-governor-signals-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=163330","title":{"rendered":"<h1>BEWARE!!! &#8216;Assault Weapon&#8217; Ban Passes WA Senate &#8211; Governor Signals Support<\/h1>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->ZeroHedge.com<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Washington state senate on Saturday approved a measure that would ban the sale of so-called &#8220;assault weapons.&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>It does not, however, ban possession.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=1240&amp;Year=2023#documentSection\">HB 1240<\/a>\u00a0will make it\u00a0<strong>illegal to sell, transfer, distribute, manufacture or import a long list of prohibited firearms.\u00a0<\/strong>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lawfilesext.leg.wa.gov\/biennium\/2023-24\/Pdf\/Bill%20Reports\/Senate\/1240-S%20SBR%20APS%2023.pdf?q=20230409112550\">bill<\/a>\u00a0bans several broad categories such as the AK-47 and AR-15 &#8220;in all its forms,&#8221; and then lists dozens of specific product lines, such as the Smith &amp; Wesson M&amp;P 15 and Bushmaster XM-15.<\/p>\n<p>It also bans the weapons by defining them as semiautomatic, centerfire rifles that accept a detachable magazine and also have at least one of many other listed features, such as a folding or telescoping stock. It also bars such weapons if they have an integral 10-round magazine.<\/p>\n<p>The bill was amended by the senate, so it now returns to Washington&#8217;s House of Representatives for a final vote. On Friday, the Senate approved an already-House-approved\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lawfilesext.leg.wa.gov\/biennium\/2023-24\/Pdf\/Bill%20Reports\/Senate\/1143-S2.E%20SBR%20APS%2023.pdf?q=20230409130008\">bill<\/a>\u00a0that puts a\u00a0<strong>10-day waiting period on gun purchases and requires buyers to prove they took a safety class<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The impending\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/starkrealities.substack.com\/p\/the-2nd-amendments-misconstrued-militia\">infringements<\/a>\u00a0on gun rights triggered a surge in gun-buying as residents raced to beat the legislature:\u00a0<strong>Background checks in the state rocketed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/2Aupdates\/status\/1642973529657278466?s=20\">70%<\/a>\u00a0higher in April<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/323628122_502449941991039_6512266332573543189_n.jpg?itok=yH036sb7\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/323628122_502449941991039_6512266332573543189_n.jpg?itok=yH036sb7\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/323628122_502449941991039_6512266332573543189_n.jpg?itok=yH036sb7\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"379\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"fd00ed31-a125-4f4e-a1db-e3a390908a26\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Washington is poised to become the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/giffords.org\/lawcenter\/gun-laws\/policy-areas\/hardware-ammunition\/assault-weapons\/#:~:text=Nine%20states%20(California%2C%20Connecticut%2C,and%20transfer%20of%20assault%20weapons.\">10th state<\/a>\u00a0to impose such an &#8220;assault weapon&#8221; ban<\/strong>, joining\u00a0California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York, along with the District of Columbia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There&#8217;s a distinct possibility all of those bans will be obliterated by the Supreme Court<\/strong>\u00a0in the not-too-distant future. Keep an eye on two cases making their way through the federal court system:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firearmspolicy.org\/bianchi\">Bianchi v Frosh<\/a>, which challenges Maryland&#8217;s ban, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firearmspolicy.org\/miller\">Miller v Bonta<\/a>, which targets California&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>After last summer&#8217;s Supreme Court\u00a0<em>Bruen<\/em>\u00a0ruling, gun control laws can only be upheld if they are consistent with the &#8220;historical tradition of firearm regulation.&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0That new standard has resulted in an ongoing series of gun control laws being rejected.
