Boom said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He pointed out that his hospital one year ago was at 95% ICU capacity, similar to the numbers the hospital is seeing today.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;It is completely normal for us to have ICU capacities that run in the 80s and 90s,&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s how all hospitals operate.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LWinthorpe\/status\/1277618508227121154\">One twitter user @LWinthorpe noted<\/a>\u00a0that the CEO of another one of Houston&#8217;s main hospitals has issued a statement pushing back against the &#8220;unnecessarily alarm[ing]&#8221; reporting on ICU capacity in the state.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<strong>The TMC issued a serious statement about ICU capacity that unnecessarily alarmed our community<\/strong>, making it inaccurately appear that hospitals are in an imminent ICU capacity crisis. The letter was released prematurely Wednesday and it had unintended consequences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was intended to alert the community to the critical need to change behaviors, actually panicked the community.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Capacity is often misunderstood by media and the public and it was clear that we needed to correct the misunderstanding to best serve the public.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Does make one wonder, just what was the point of all this fearmongering?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One former NYT Op-Ed contributor reminds us&#8230;<\/p>\n<aside class=\"newsletter-insert\" data-gtm-vis-recent-on-screen-2077925_80=\"10098153\" data-gtm-vis-first-on-screen-2077925_80=\"10098153\" data-gtm-vis-total-visible-time-2077925_80=\"100\" data-gtm-vis-has-fired-2077925_80=\"1\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-insert__left-section\"><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cTo whom should propaganda be addressed?
