Ryerson, leading theoretician of the Communist Party and editor of <em>Marxist Review<\/em>; Pierre Gelinas, Que\u00adbec director of Agitation &amp; Propaganda (\u201cAgit\u00adprop\u201d) of the Communist Party.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1952<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Led delegation of Communists to the Moscow Economic Conference.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1953<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Barred entry into the United States as an \u201cinadmissible\u201d person.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1955<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Launched <em>Le Rassemblement<\/em>, a leftist \u201cunited front\u201d rally in Quebec, but the CCF re\u00adfused to join because it was too leftist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1960<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Led a Communist delegation to Peking for Red victory celebration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1961<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 <em>Social Purpose for Canada<\/em>, the socialist handbook written by Marxist and NDP leaders, was published, containing a chapter by Mr. Trudeau in which he lauds Mao Tse-tung, urges so\u00adcialists not to \u201cwater down\u201d their socialism but to make its approach more \u201cflexible,\u201d and to welcome federalism \u201cas a valuable tool which permits dynamic parties to plant socialist governments in certain provinces, from which the seed of radicalism can slowly spread.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>1962<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Amidst protests, this millionnaire leftist succeeded in gaining appointment as a profes\u00adsor at University of Montreal, which became a pro-Castro stronghold.\u00a0 Appointed to executive of Red-line Canadian Peace Research Institute.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1963<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Campaigned with NDP against Liberals, whom he called \u201cidiots\u201d because they had de\u00adcided to accept nuclear defence weapons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1965<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Having decided to <em>use<\/em> the Liberal Party as an instrument to propel himself to political power, he and leftists Jean Marchand and Gerard Pelletier <em>became<\/em>\u2018Liberals\u2019 and were elected to Parliament, where they formed the \u201cNew Guard\u201d of the Liberal Party.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1966<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Appointed Parliamentary Secretary to P.M. Pearson.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1967<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Named Minister of Justice.\u00a0 Credited in Communist press with intervening personally to reinstate hippie rag <em>Georgia Straight<\/em>, which had been banned by Vancouver Mayor Campbell for obscenity.<\/p>\n<p>Introduced bill to legalize abortion and homo\u00adsexuality, spearheading drive to shift Canadian justice from Scriptural to Humanistic basis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1968<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Moving, behind fantastic Press-TV build\u00adup, towards leadership of Liberal Party and Primeministry of Canada.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>EARLY BACKGROUND<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Professor Kenneth McNaught, founder of the pro-Red Fair Play for Cuba Committee in Canada, has observed that \u201cTrudeau\u2019s political fate will likely be the political fate of Canada.\u201d\u00a0 (Quoted by Ottawa correspondent, Peter Newman, in the <em>Toronto Star<\/em>, April 25, 1967.)\u00a0 <em>American Opinion<\/em> magazine, in a penetrating examination of Canadian policy in its July \u201967 issue, observes that \u201ca brief examination of Mr. Trudeau\u2019s background confirms Professor McNaught\u2019s inference that, to the extent that Trudeau extends his influence and is politically advanced, Canada will move toward the Communists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trudeau is, indeed, being \u201cpolitically advanced\u201d at an incredible pace by very powerful forces.\u00a0 Less than five years ago he was attacking the Liberals as \u201cidiots\u201d; and today he is reaching for Liberal leader\u00adship and the Primeministry!\u00a0 <em>Upon what meat doth this our Caesar feed, that he is grown so great?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This report is not so much to inspect the meat, but rather to examine the background and philosophical direction of this instant Caesar created by the mass media.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trudeau\u2019s story during the 1940s is typical of the rich young leftist \u00a0\u2014 working against military service, against his coun try, and becoming involved in Marxism under socialist influ\u00adences at university. Note the first four points in the summary on page 1.<\/p>\n<p>But after the universities, as Mr. Trudeau approaches the age of 30, we find him playing an ever more prominent role in the international revolutionary move\u00adment.\u00a0 We note his presence in China in 1950 when the Reds were taking over.\u00a0 We note, too, his launching of the leftist publi\u00adcation <em>CITE LIBRE<\/em> in Montreal in 1951, with the collaboration of Gerard Pelletier, another leftist who was to join the Liberal Party with him in 1965.\u00a0 <em>CITE LIBRE<\/em> became the vehicle for a continuous stream of \u2018reform\u2019 writers, including such well known Reds as Prof. Raymond Boyer, the Soviet spy; Stanley B. Ryerson, leading theoretician of the Communist Party and editor of <em>Marxist Review<\/em>; Pierre Gelinas, Quebec director of Agita\u00adtion and Propaganda of the Communist Party.<\/p>\n<p>In 1952 we find Mr. Trudeau heading a delegation of \u2018businessmen\u2019\u00a0\u2014 who turned out to be Communists!\u00a0\u2014 to the Moscow Economic Conference.\u00a0 This outraged even the French-lan\u00adguage daily press to the point that <em>Le Droit<\/em> (Ottawa) and <em>L\u2019Action Catholique<\/em> (Quebec City) called him a Communist for his pro-Soviet articles upon his return.\u00a0 And the fol\u00adlowing year, 1953, we find him barred from the United States, presumably for his left\u00adist activities.<\/p>\n<p>In 1955 we find Mr. Trudenu using the old \u201cunited front\u201d ploy in Quebec, launching La Rassemblement to unite all leftists.\u00a0 But it was so far left that the socialist CCF party (now the NDP) refused to join.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>THE NINETEEN-SIXTIES<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>It has been said that there\u2019s something wrong with a youngster who isn\u2019t a bit of a radical in his teens.\u00a0 But in his twenties one looks for developing maturity and re\u00adsponsibility.\u00a0 Certainly, at 40 we expect a man to be responsible for his actions.<\/p>\n<p>And so we come to the \u2018Sixties, and find Mr. Trudeau in 1960 leading a Communist delegation to Peking for Red victory cele\u00adbrations!\u00a0 We find him, also, picked up by the U.S. Coast Guard off Key West, as he tries to row to Cuba in a canoe, and deport\u00aded back to Canada!<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u201cSOCIAL PURPOSE FOR CANADA\u201d<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>In January, 1958, a meeting of Fabian So\u00adcialist intellectuals was called in Ottawa to devise a blueprint of Socialist planning for Canada.\u00a0 Financed by the Boag Foundation\u00a0\u2014 a trust left by a British Columbian for \u201csocialist education\u201d\u00a0\u2014 these leftist intel\u00adlectuals named an editorial committee to write a book called <em>Social Purpose for Can\u00adada<\/em>.\u00a0 This book was to be the counterpart for the \u2018Sixties of the earlier one published in the \u2018Thirties by leftist intellectuals en\u00adtitled <em>Social Planning for Canada<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 which had been one of the Mein Kampfs of the early socialist CCF.<\/p>\n<p>It was planned to launch in the early \u2018Six\u00adties, a New Democratic Party, uniting the doctrinaire socialist CCF party with the merged trade unions of the Canadian Labour Congress.\u00a0 And <em>Social Purpose for Canada<\/em> was finally published in 1961, just in time for the birth of the New Democratic Party (NDP).\u00a0 And the editorial committee which produced it was made up of the following well known socialists:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prof Frank R. Scott, Prof. George Grube, Dr. Eugene Forsey, Prof. J.C. Weldon, Prof. Stu\u00adart Jamieson, Messrs. David Lewis and T.\u00a0Shoyama, and Prof. Pierre-Elliott Trudeau.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We note in the preface of <em>Social Purpose for Canada<\/em> this significant statement:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ideas contained in this book will, we hope, influence not only the New (Democratic) Party but <em>all political parties<\/em> in Canada.\u201d (emphasis added)<\/p>\n<p>This is an amazingly candid admission by the Editor, Michael Oliver (who became Re\u00adsearch Director of the Bi-Bi Commission), insofar as many of the ideas set forth in this textbook of Fabian Socialist planning indeed have rubbed off in recent years on <em>all<\/em> our political parties.<\/p>\n<p>An alarming aspect which emerges from an examination of this book is the fact that most of the contributors have either infil\u00adtrated the Liberal Party and wormed their way into key Cabinet posts, or have kept their socialist NDP allegiance and still been appointed to top-level Government commissions by the Liberals.\u00a0 The Board of Broadcast Governors, the Royal Commis\u00adsion on \u2018hate\u2019 legislation, the Bi-Bi Com\u00admission and many other Ottawa schemes have been loaded with these Fabians.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>TRUDEAU\u2019S contribution to <em>Social Purpose for Canada<\/em> appears on pages 371-393, in a chapter entitled <em>The Practice and Theory of Federalism<\/em>.\u00a0 His article is one of amazing frankness, which bluntly asserts that:\u00a0 \u201c<em>Federalism must be welcomed as a valuable tool which permits dynamic par\u00adties to plant socialist governments in cer\u00adtain provinces, from which the seed of radicalism can slowly spread.<\/em>\u201d (page 373)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Perhaps remembering the CCF\u2019s rejection of his too-radical Le Rassemblement of 1955, Mr. Trudeau berates the CCF for not being \u201cflexible enough\u201d and calls for \u201cgreater realism\u201d in these terms:\u00a0 \u201c<em>My plea is merely for greater realism and greater flexibility in the socialist approach to pro\u00adblems of federalism:\u00a0 I should like to see socialists feeling free to espouse whatever political trends or to use whatever consti\u00adtutional tools happen to fit each particular problem at each particular time.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And on page 373 Mr. Trudeau explains why he inserted a quotation from Mao Tse-tung \u201con strategy and tactics\u201d on the previous page:\u00a0 \u201c<em>Indeed the experience of that superb strategist, Mao Tse-tung, might lead us to conclude that in a vast and heterogeneous country, the possibility of establishing so\u00adcialist strongholds in certain regions is the very best thing.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Space limits us to just one more excerpt from Mr. Trudeau\u2019s chapter (page 385):<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe upshot of my entire argument in this section is that socialists, <em>rather than water down<\/em>(to use a previous expression) <em>their so\u00adcialism, must constantly seek ways of adapting it to a bicultural society governed under a fed\u00aderal constitution.<\/em>\u00a0 And since the future of Canadian federalism lies clearly in the direction of co-operation, <em>the wise socialist will turn his thoughts in that direction<\/em>\u2026\u201d (emphasis added)<\/p>\n<p>We at least know why Mr. Trudeau is a federalist!\u00a0 But to get away from his dialec\u00adtical phraseology, in plain words this means for all the intellectual socialists to infil\u00adtrate the Federal Government or bureaucracy, and to \u201cadapt\u201d their socialism to welfare schemes, and so on.\u00a0 And what better place to consolidate a \u201csocialist stronghold\u201d than right in the heart of Ottawa among the sprawling federal bureaucracy?<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>THE \u201cPRACTICAL SOCIALISTS\u201d<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Now, Mr. Trudeau and his colleagues, Jean Marchand and Gerard Pelletier are socialists.\u00a0 So are NDP members socialists\u00a0\u2014 socialists <em>out<\/em> of office.\u00a0 But the <em>practical<\/em> socialist is one <em>in office<\/em>, where he can implement socialism.\u00a0 The <em>label<\/em> isn\u2019t important, but the <em>policy<\/em> is.\u00a0 And so in 1965, only two years after he supported the NDP and attacked the Liberals as \u201cidiots,\u201d Mr. Trudeau, together with practical socialist colleagues Marchand and Pelletier, joined the Liberal Party and <em>used<\/em>\u00a0 it as an instrument to catapult themselves into political office in Ottawa.<\/p>\n<p>Toronto <em>Telegram<\/em>\u00a0 columnist, Lubor Zink, put it this way:\u00a0 \u201cThe New Democrats now have three French Canadians in the Pearson minis\u00adtry:\u00a0 Jean Marchand, Pierre-Elliott Trudeau and Jean Chretien.\u00a0 Not bad for a party which has so far failed to elect a single MP in Quebec under its own banner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rise of Messrs. Trudeau, Marchand and Pelletier since reaching Ottawa in 1965 is in\u00adcredible.\u00a0 Pelletier is now Parliamentary Assis\u00adtant to External Affairs Minister Martin, Mar\u00adchand is Minister of Immigration, and Trudeau is Minister of Justice and reaching for the Primeministry\u00a0\u2014 all in less than three years since <em>conversion<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>A NEW CONCEPT OF JUSTICE<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Trudeau admirer, Peter Newman, in his Toron\u00adto <em>Star<\/em> column of April 25, 1967, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe (Trudeau) is also concerned with other aspects of the creative use of law.\u00a0 \u2018Justice,\u2019 he says, \u2018should be regarded more and more as a department planning for the society of tomorrow, not merely the government\u2019s legal ad\u00adviser\u00a0\u2026&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We note here the concept of \u201ccreative\u201d law and of a Justice Department concerned more and more with \u201cplanning for the society of tomor\u00adrow.\u201d\u00a0 We detect here the concept of a Justice Department not primarily concerned with the up\u00adholding of law and order, but with <em>using<\/em> law to <em>change<\/em> and <em>shape<\/em> the social order.\u00a0 Thus does law become not a framework for order, but itself an <em>instrument of revolution<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>We detect here, too, the concept of a new ba\u00adsis of law\u00a0\u2014 a basis of shifting sociological theory and \u201csocial acceptability\u201d ethic.\u00a0 This concept demolishes the basis of Western civili\u00adzation\u00a0\u2014 that basis being a Scriptural basis, a concept of Man related and responsible to God for his life and actions, with his guide or <em>law<\/em>\u00a0 being not any man-made theory but rather the Commandments and exhortations of God\u2019s Word.<\/p>\n<p>It is impossible to exaggerate the significance implicit in this shift away from the Scriptural and over to the humanistic basis of Canadian law.\u00a0 And incredible is the failure of not only our political leaders but also our religious leaders to speak out.<\/p>\n<p>And it is out of this new concept of \u2018justice\u2019 that Mr. Trudeau has spawned his Criminal Code amendments, widening grounds for abortion and legalizing homosexuality.\u00a0 Last December 5, he urged MPs not to mix the sacred and the pro\u00adfane, not to legislate ethical and moral convic\u00adtions upon society.\u00a0 In short: divorce morality from law.\u00a0 But the British Chief Justice, Lord Denning, warned that \u201cwithout religion there can be no morality, and without morality there can be no law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Trudeau build-up is a frightening dem\u00adonstration of the power of today\u2019s mass me\u00addia to create and project <em>images<\/em> and stimu\u00adlate blind emotions.\u00a0 Unless Liberals soon separate the Man from the Myth, their party will be the Fabian Express after April 6.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>RECOMMENDED READING<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><strong>The Fabian Socialist Contribution to the Communist Advance<\/strong> (Eric D.
