The US president insists he needs no cognitive tests, given his leadership of the \u201cessential nation\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n US President Joe Biden says he has been\u00a0\u201crunning the world\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and therefore does not actually need any cognitive tests to prove his fitness for office.<\/p>\n The president made the remarks in an interview with ABC News on Friday, when the 81-year-old was repeatedly pressed by George Stephanopoulos about the growing concerns surrounding his mental and physical condition.<\/p>\n Asked whether he has\u00a0\u201chad a full neurological and cognitive evaluation,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Biden provided a rather incoherent response.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve had \u2013 I get a full neurological test everyday with me. And I\u2019ve had a full physical. I had, you know, I mean, I \u2013 I\u2019ve been at Walter Reed [national military medical center] for my physicals. I mean \u2013 uhm yes, the answer,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he stated.<\/p>\n Pressed further whether he has actually had\u00a0\u201cspecific cognitive tests\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and an examination by a trained neurologist, rather than a broader practice doctor, Biden insisted\u00a0\u201cno one\u201d<\/em> had told him he actually needed to undergo one. The president dodged the question on whether he would willingly pass such a test and release its results to the public, insisting his work alone proves he is fit enough for office.<\/p>\n \u201cLook. I have a cognitive test every single day. Every day I have that test. Everything I do. You know, not only am I campaigning, but I\u2019m running the world. Not \u2013 and that\u2019s not hi -sounds like hyperbole, but we are the essential nation of the world,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he asserted.<\/p>\n During the interview, the president also blamed his subpar performance during last week\u2019s debate against Donald Trump on suffering from a\u00a0\u201cbad cold,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0dismissing it as a\u00a0\u201cbad episode\u201d<\/em>\u00a0rather than part of a bigger problem.<\/p>\n The debate debacle has reinvigorated long-running concerns over Biden\u2019s advanced age, as well as declining health. On Friday, a group of 168 high-profile Democratic Party supporters, including major donors and academics, sent a letter to the US president, urging him to drop out of the race, the Washington Post reported, citing anonymous sources.<\/p>\n The signees have\u00a0\u201crespectfully\u201d<\/em>\u00a0called on Biden to do so, arguing the move was needed\u00a0\u201cfor the sake of our democracy and the future of our nation,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0according to the report.
