READ HERE:<\/strong><\/a> Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez has accused the Western-backed opposition of attempting a ‘media coup’, and condemned widespread rioting in the wake of President Nicolas Maduro\u2019s election victory.<\/p>\n

Protests erupted after the national electoral authority declared victory for the incumbent president on Monday. Maduro’s opponent\u00a0Edmundo Gonzalez has claimed he was the rightful winner. He accused the government of vote rigging and urged\u00a0thousands of his supporters\u00a0to take to the the streets.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, Padrino accused the demonstrators of\u00a0\u201cacts of sabotage\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and destruction of official buildings, including a hundred electoral centers and offices of the National Electoral Council (CNE).<\/p>\n

According to the minister, these\u00a0\u201cexpressions of hatred and irrationality\u201d<\/em>\u00a0are a part of a\u00a0\u201cpreconceived plan\u201d<\/em>\u00a0by US-backed political groups.\u00a0\u201cBut in addition, they involve an attempted media coup d\u2019\u00e9tat, supported in social media and supported by North American imperialism and its external and internal allies,\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>Padrino said.<\/p>\n

\u201dWe are witnessing fascism at its maximum expression, of an international structure that is investing hundreds of millions of dollars to discredit the extraordinary demonstration of civility that the Venezuelan people showed on the last election day,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he claimed.<\/p>\n
