Islam is the State religion of Saudi Arabia. It is essentially a theocracy!<\/p>\n
Israel defines itself as a Jewish State. Many of its orthodox want to establish
\nit as a theocracy which accounts for the on-going struggles within that country
\nbetween its secular, democratic forces and those Jews who adhere to the
\nmessianic beliefs embedded in their interpretation of Torah.<\/p>\n
I believe that the inclusion of the religious establishment clause by the Founders
\nalong with the prohibition against religious tests for office holders is tantamount
\nto a bar on foreign aid to countries that define themselves as religious states.<\/p>\n
To the extent we were told to avoid foreign entanglements, this makes great sense
\nas we witness the brilliant strategy of Bibi Netanyahu coming to fruition as he enrolls
\nthe US in yet another “crusade” (Bush Jr.) by the US on behalf of Israel to dispatch
\nits many enemies exactly as described by Wesley Clark in the weeks after 9\/11.<\/p>\n
And to the extent Christian Zionists in the US like John Hagee and Speaker Johnson
\nhave come to dominate the public discourse with their strong attachment to biblical
\ndoctrines promoting Israel as God’s Chosen Land, we have essentially created a
\nJewish State here in the US with DC being the Western Capital of Greater Israel.<\/p>\n
I contend that foreign aid to religious countries is constitutionally suspect because it
\nrepresents a “law respecting the establishment of religion!”<\/p>\n
Saying the quiet part out loud becomes more appropriate with the rise of Netanyahu
\nas Israeli Prime Minister, a man who went to high school in Philadelphia and college
\nin Boston (MIT) and represents the almost complete merger of his country of birth
\n(Israel) with America.<\/p>\n
And to the extent he feels compelled to accelerate the return of the Messiah as all but
\nmandated to him by Rebbe Schneerson, the extreme (fanatical) views of one sect are
\nall but controlling the foreign policy of America and perhaps the fate of the world.<\/p>\n
Those who oppose such actions and want to act within the rule of law should summon
\nthe courage to challenge our system by finding a way to end funding this modern Crusade.<\/p>\n
Using the terms of the establishment clause might be one creative avenue for constraining
