{"id":256830,"date":"2024-10-14T06:23:57","date_gmt":"2024-10-14T10:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=256830"},"modified":"2024-10-14T06:24:12","modified_gmt":"2024-10-14T10:24:12","slug":"top-democrats-including-election-denier-jamie-raskin-wont-commit-to-certifying-a-trump-victory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=256830","title":{"rendered":"<h2>Top Democrats, Including Election Denier Jamie Raskin, Won\u2019t Commit to Certifying a Trump Victory<\/h2>"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Jamie Raskin\" src=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2024\/10\/Jamie-Raskin-640x480.jpeg\" alt=\"Representative Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, during the Democratic National Conv\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><figcaption><cite>David Paul Morris\/Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/cite><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Wendell Huseb\u00f8<br \/>\nBREITBART.com<!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"subheading\">Top congressional Democrats told Axios on Thursday they would not commit to certifying the 2024 election if former President Donald Trump wins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">The failure to commit to certifying the election would prove many members to be\u00a0hypocrites, including House Oversight Committee ranking member and former January 6 committee member Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/10\/11\/house-democrats-jan-6-election-trump-raskin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">told<\/a>\u00a0Axios that he is unsure if he\u2019ll certify a Trump win.<\/p>\n<div>Raskin denied Trump won the 2016 election when he objected to Trump\u2019s electors in 2017.<\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"bnn-if-tweet\" src=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/t\/assets\/html\/tweet-4.html#1540055374572797954\" width=\"560\" height=\"260\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-btlnk=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1540055374572797954\" data-bnewh=\"572px\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>If Trump \u201cwon a free, fair and honest election, then we would obviously accept it,\u201d Raskin said, assuming the election was free, fair and honest.\u00a0\u201cI definitely don\u2019t assume that,\u201d he added.\u00a0\u201cDemocrats don\u2019t engage in election fraud and election fabrication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A video\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2024\/08\/05\/watch-raskin-describes-scenario-where-congress-could-disqualify-trump-in-january\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">surfaced<\/a>\u00a0in September of a panel discussion in February 2024 in which Raskin speculated that Congress would invalidate a\u00a0Trump election victory, even though it could be at the risk of \u201ccivil war.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">\u201cIt is not clear whether Raskin was actually outlining a plan of action, or rather using a hypothetical to argue that the U.S. Supreme Court was placing what he considered an undue burden on Congress to keep Trump out of office,\u201d Breitbart News\u2019s Joel Pollak reported.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-AMP-B1\"><\/figure>\n<p>House Rules Committee Ranking Member Jim McGovern (D-MA) also told Axios that Democrats would only certify a Trump victory \u201cassuming everything goes the way we expect it to \u2026 We have to see how it all happens.\u201d McGovern also objected to Trump\u2019s electors in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), who objected to\u00a0George W. Bush\u2019s victory in 2005, said she did not \u201cknow what kind of shenanigans he [Trump] is planning \u2026\u00a0We would have to, in any election \u2026 make sure that all the rules have been followed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vice President Kamala Harris has not yet answered if she would support certifying a Trump victory, although she has been highly critical of Republicans who objected to President Joe Biden\u2019s victory in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>For years, Democrats claimed Republicans are election deniers because they questioned the entirety of elections, but Democrats have also denied election\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/07\/12\/over-150-examples-show-democrats-denying-election-results-rnc-reports\/\">outcomes<\/a>\u00a0over 150 times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">Biden and Democrats\u00a0have\u00a0a long history of\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XX2Ejqjz6TA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">contesting<\/a>\u00a0election outcomes,\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/first-families-square-142141\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">including<\/a>\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1552161&amp;key=56814ccf861ba4e9e474ddf3ba913336&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Hillary\u00a0Clinton<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/evs\/2005\/roll007.xml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Barbara\u00a0Lee<\/a>\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/fact-check-did-democrats-object-more-states-2016-republicans-2020-1561407\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">(D-CA)<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?161423-1\/electoral-college-ballot-count\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Maxine<\/a>\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/evs\/2005\/roll007.xml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Waters<\/a>\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1557375&amp;key=eac3d8a352934527b58c1c0d3496efd6&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">(D-CA)<\/a>, and\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?c5017435\/user-clip-rep-sheila-jackson-lee-2004-election-free-clear-transparent-real\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Sheila\u00a0Jackson<\/a>\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1551065&amp;key=d9b4f6cf52717a33aadda504a11db45f&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Lee<\/a>\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/fact-check-did-democrats-object-more-states-2016-republicans-2020-1561407\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">(D-TX)<\/a>, who have all cast doubt on every single Republican presidential victory in the last two decades. In fact,\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1556789&amp;key=5b3ab5c3b78afce40c5240f54929d057&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">every<\/a>\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1571945&amp;key=c85b8617c932d7ed8788fee715273f72&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">single<\/a>\u00a0Democrat\u00a0president\u00a0since 1977 has questioned the legitimacy of U.S. elections, according to the RNC. Biden\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1557537&amp;key=c96b9f10951273bab76dd1982d610a42&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">cast doubt<\/a>\u00a0on the legitimacy of the\u00a0 2022 midterms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">In both\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/blogs\/ticket\/joe-biden-al-gore-elected-president-140302538.html?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAANPsFodWifnypSLM2IKNG_6XR2A6ioLkbJLiOGI77qTvSLfp3u6XJKZud8O4kcJYu2ethSGYb_dXaPNZF1-hPZvFxdxFCH_dSLyKKAfqR5JGHfcuaap4DlByEyPwwyKw91EbYHsSYpt_e5Rzip2LFL4-XMbflmdbSNkQNgndM8_Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">2013<\/a>\u00a0and 2016,\u00a0Biden\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R_5qd1-r9Nw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0Gore\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1545827&amp;key=548b240f9a263b59ab5a95c296b152a3&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">won<\/a>\u00a0the 2000 presidential election. In May 2019, Biden said he \u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1577049&amp;key=fffecfe68b24927f3e1901be8f5afd23&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">absolutely agrees<\/a>\u201d that Trump is an \u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ABCNews\/videos\/626596097857567\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">illegitimate president<\/a>.\u201d According to a pool report,\u00a0Biden claimed in 2013:\u00a0\u201cThis man [Gore] was elected president of the United States of America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have not just denied election results. They have labeled elections as \u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1557141&amp;key=0d612ff6fa1ea79ac7156a4d00524d13&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">stolen<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1550533&amp;key=49c005ec3e6b286c500cab8f53f556f9&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">fraudulent<\/a>,\u201d and a \u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1556733&amp;key=b6028a4b2eb96a395daf5005d58d6bd2&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">coup d\u2019etat<\/a>.\u201d In 2002, Gore\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/politics\/2002\/11\/15\/gore-calls-2000-verdict-crushing-assails-court\/0108a5e5-0cb2-4511-aad9-14a05e8547f7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0he \u201cwould have won\u201d if every vote in Florida was counted and that he \u201cabsolutely\u201d believed he would become president after the ordered recount. In 2016, Hillary Clinton\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?t=6639&amp;v=OqgTFA1HnUM&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">said<\/a>\u00a0that the Supreme Court \u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1556921&amp;key=1d5e87348f297c592b51821b0c878b7a&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">took away a presidency<\/a>\u201d in\u00a0<em>Bush v. Gore<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats repeatedly cast doubt on the legitimacy of the 2004 election.\u00a0In 2006, then-DNC Chairman Howard Dean\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-news\/ohio-2004-the-howard-dean-interview-80615\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">stated<\/a>\u00a0that he was \u201cnot confident that the election in Ohio was fairly decided\u201d in 2004. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?185005-2\/debate-ohio-electoral-vote-objection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">said<\/a>\u00a0it is \u201cappropriate\u201d to have the\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1554773&amp;key=b16333057e84ab875b3ad758ed5dfbee&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">debate<\/a>\u00a0concerning\u00a0the 2004 election and\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?185005-2\/debate-ohio-electoral-vote-objection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0there were \u201clegitimate concerns\u201d\u00a0regarding the\u00a0\u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1552273&amp;key=a96e05b5ea29734cdc75e16a5ea6ed19&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">integrity<\/a>\u201d of U.S. elections. Then-Rep. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?185005-2\/debate-ohio-electoral-vote-objection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">cast doubt<\/a>\u00a0on the security of electronic voting\u00a0machines\u00a0in the 2004\u00a0election, saying he was \u201cworried\u201d that some machines do not have a paper trail.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have also cast doubt on the 2016 election.\u00a0In 2017,\u00a0seven House Democrats\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/fact-check-did-democrats-object-more-states-2016-republicans-2020-1561407\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">tried<\/a>\u00a0to object to the 2016 election electoral votes. After President Trump\u2019s victory in 2016,\u00a067 Democrats\u00a0boycotted his inauguration, with some claiming Trump\u2019s victory\u00a0was\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/50-democratic-congress-members-planning-skip-inauguration\/story?id=44783997\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">not legitimate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">In September 2017,\u00a0Hillary Clinton\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2017\/09\/18\/551217204\/hillary-clinton-says-shes-optimistic-about-our-country-but-i-am-not-naive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">said<\/a>\u00a0she would not \u201crule out\u201d\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1554351&amp;key=ad4a246c16c7b9964cc9d1f6d18fd22d&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">questioning<\/a>\u00a0the legitimacy\u00a0of the 2016 election. In October 2020, Clinton\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2020\/10\/hillary-clinton-doing-now-2020\/616668\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0that the 2016 presidential election was not conducted legitimately,\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1554803&amp;key=79d3753686fd902af9a2cb71d56ac62e&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">saying<\/a>, \u201cWe still don\u2019t really know what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, Democrats supported Stacey Abrams in her stolen election claims.\u00a0Hillary Clinton\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/416583-hillary-clinton-stacey-abrams-wouldve-already-won-if-shed-had-a-fair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">said<\/a>\u00a0Stacey Abrams \u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1556279&amp;key=0b8165ee274fa2cd53364d16eb6982ff&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">would have won<\/a>\u201d Georgia\u2019s gubernatorial race \u201cif she had a fair election\u201d and\u00a0that<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/03\/04\/clinton-lied-georgia-2018-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">\u00a0Stacey Abrams<\/a>\u00a0\u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1557571&amp;key=21a5e5544575982f6a709b931cc8e2e4&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">should be governor<\/a>\u201d but was \u201cdeprived of the votes [she] otherwise would have gotten.\u201d\u00a0Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ)\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/cory-booker-says-georgia-election-stolen-stacey-abrams-012932105.html?guccounter=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">said,<\/a>\u00a0\u201cI think that Stacey Abrams\u2019 election is being\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1558669&amp;key=3a66d4b6e849557e968d163a99625dd8&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">stolen<\/a>\u00a0from her.\u201d\u00a0Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH)\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?454511-1\/democratic-lawmakers-address-national-action-network-conference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">contended<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cif Stacey Abrams doesn\u2019t win in Georgia, they\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1558285&amp;key=2ffbb1af179abd34c2a175f6e59c10e5&amp;userid=17087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">stole<\/a>\u00a0it.\u201d\u00a0Sen.
