Oregon State Police troopers have been federally deputized, for operations inside Portland concerning the ongoing riots, looting, and murders taking place in that city, state police confirm.<\/p>\n
State police say they\u2019re working with the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office to review arrests made by troopers assigned to Portland for potential prosecution. This became necessary after the Multnomah County District Attorney, Mike Schmidt, announced\u00a0his office would presumptively decline to prosecute certain misdemeanor charges<\/a>\u00a0stemming from the protests,.\u00a0 Now, it will be a decision for the US Attorney and not state prosecutors.<\/p>\n The troopers assigned to Portland have been cross-deputized by the U.S. Marshals.<\/p>\n The news of state police troopers being deputized by U.S. Marshals came a day after\u00a0sheriffs from surrounding counties declined<\/a>\u00a0to send in deputies to help Multnomah County and the Portland Police Bureau\u00a0after Gov.
