New York\u2019s abysmal pandemic performance is everyone\u2019s fault but his own, Governor Andrew Cuomo has seemingly argued, blaming the \u2018incompetence\u2019 of others, from Dr Fauci to President Trump.<\/p>\n
\u201cDonald Trump caused the Covid outbreak in New York,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Cuomo said twice at a press conference on Tuesday.\u00a0\u201cThat is a fact. It\u2019s a fact that he admitted, and the CDC admitted, and Fauci admitted.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Trump called it a\u00a0\u201cChinese virus\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and didn\u2019t ban travel from Europe in time, Cuomo argued, calling the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)\u00a0\u201cincompetent\u201d<\/em>\u00a0for allegedly missing the threat from overseas.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd now, they won\u2019t provide federal funding to help repair the damage from the ambush they created,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0the governor lamented.<\/p>\n This was presumably a reference to Trump\u2019s order last week to cut federal funding from jurisdictions that refused to crack down on riots and anarchy over the summer, which had already prompted Cuomo to threaten the president physically.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery time New York and New York City has needed something, President Trump has delivered,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a statement, responding to the governor\u2019s claims.\u00a0\u201cThe only people trying to harm New York City are the liberal politicians and their failed big government policies.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Criticism of Dr Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has previously been frowned upon in the mainstream media, but Cuomo apparently got a pass \u2013 just as he did with his response to the outbreak.<\/p>\n Cuomo has insisted on the European origins of the coronavirus outbreak since\u00a0May<\/a>, but boasted of his supposed success in defeating the pandemic in June. Last month, he announced\u00a0a book<\/a>\u00a0about\u00a0\u201cleadership\u201d<\/em>\u00a0in battling the virus \u2013 also accusing Trump of\u00a0\u201cambushing\u201d<\/em>\u00a0New York by not cutting off travel from Europe sooner.<\/p>\n Left out of this narrative are inconvenient facts, such as the widespread condemnation of Trump\u2019s travel ban from China, or the insistence of New York officials there was no danger from the virus at the time \u2013 or Cuomo\u2019s own policy of sending the infected into nursing homes, which has contributed to at least 6,600 deaths, and perhaps even up to 11,000.<\/p>\n
