<\/div>\n\u201cNow that dentists have reopened their doors, they\u2019re having patients show up with a nasty set of symptoms, which the doctors have dubbed \u2018mask mouth,\u2019\u201d reports\u00a0FOX News<\/a>. \u201cThe new oral hygiene issue \u2014 caused by, you guessed it,\u00a0wearing a mask all the time\u00a0to prevent the spread of the\u00a0coronavirus\u00a0\u2014 is leading to all kinds of dental disasters like decaying teeth, receding gum lines and seriously sour breath.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re seeing inflammation in people\u2019s gums that have been healthy forever, and cavities in people who have never had them before,\u201d\u00a0Dr. Rob Ramondi<\/strong>, a dentist and co-founder of\u00a0One Manhattan Dental<\/a>, told FOX News.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Beyond embarrassing and painful, dental infections are life-threatening confirms a study by the\u00a0American Stroke Association<\/a>:<\/p>\n \u201cPatients with gum disease were twice as likely to have a stroke caused by hardening of large arteries within the brain than those without gum disease.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n One Manhattan Dental told FOX News that they estimate 50% of their patients are suffering from mask-induced dental problems.<\/p>\n The dentists theorize that the oral infections are largely caused by people\u2019s tendency to mouth breathe while wearing a mask. Mouth breathing has many more side-effects other than dental infections. Bypassing the nasal cavity\u00a0denies the body of nitric oxide<\/a>\u00a0(a critical blood vessel dilator). The nasal cavity also warms and purifies air before hitting the lungs.<\/p>\n Of course, other studies have shown masks\u00a0increase infection rates<\/a>\u00a0in other ways, so why not in the mouth? Possibly these dental problems are a result of \u201cbacterial growth on a used and loaded mask\u201d as Prof. Denis Rancourt speculates in his paper\u00a0Masks Don\u2019t Work<\/a>. Masks create a moist environment in front of the mouth for bacteria to fester, while being unhindered by the body\u2019s immune system.<\/p>\n Call me simple, but I can\u2019t see how stressing one\u2019s immune system with dental infections would help one fight SARS-COV-2.
