Some 200 protesters in Portland, Oregon, tore down the statues of Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln Sunday night in riots that had been billed as \u201cIndigenous Peoples Day of Rage\u201d by organizers,\u00a0The Oregonian<\/a>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n The demonstrators, some carrying weapons, marched through town before toppling the statues and smashing windows at the Oregon Historical Society.<\/p>\n Police declared the event a riot and ordered the group to disperse, saying anyone involved in \u201ccriminal behavior, including vandalism\u201d was subject to arrest, although it is unclear if\u00a0arrests were indeed made,\u00a0USA Today<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n In a series of\u00a0tweets\u00a0<\/a>reacting to the riots, President Donald Trump wrote \u201cPut these animals in jail, now.\u00a0The Radical Left only knows how to take advantage of very dumb \u2018leadership\u2019 fools. This is Biden! Law & Order!\u201d<\/p>\n In another message on\u00a0Twitter,<\/a>\u00a0the president declared that \u201cThe Radical Left fools in Portland don\u2019t want any help from real Law Enforcement which we will provide instantaneously. Vote!\u201d<\/p>\n A banner that read \u201cStop honoring racist colonizer murderers\u201d was also displayed at the Oregon Historical Society during the demonstration, according to\u00a0The Hill.<\/a><\/p>\n The protest, which was held a day before Columbus Day, comes in the aftermath of months of demonstrations in the city against racial injustice following the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd in\u00a0late May, an unarmed black man.<\/p>\n
