{"id":32119,"date":"2020-10-16T16:21:31","date_gmt":"2020-10-16T20:21:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=32119"},"modified":"2020-10-16T16:21:31","modified_gmt":"2020-10-16T20:21:31","slug":"twitter-dissembles-more-than-ever-to-justify-censoring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=32119","title":{"rendered":"Twitter Dissembles More Than Ever to Justify Censoring"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Twitter announces new policies after Hunter Biden report imbroglio<\/h1>\n<p><!--more--><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/image-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"931\" height=\"524\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32120\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/image-1.jpg 931w, https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/image-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/image-1-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 931px) 100vw, 931px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>The social media giant became the story when it reportedly decided to block a story<\/h3>\n<p>By Edmund DeMarche | Fox News<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">A top policy executive at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/tech\/companies\/twitter\">Twitter<\/a>\u00a0announced policy changes at the social media giant late Thursday after the company faced its toughest allegations yet of\u00a0censorship in order to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/tech\/twitter-ceo-jack-dorsey-admits-companys-blocking-of-ny-post-article-was-unacceptable\">protect Democratic candidates.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Vijaya Gadde, the legal, policy and trust &amp; safety lead at the company, announced that some of the changes will include its approach to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/twitter-double-standard-hunter-biden-claims-censor\">hacked content<\/a>\u201d and how it shares links on its platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll other Twitter Rules will still apply to the posting of or linking to hack materials, such as our rules against posting private information, synthetic and manipulated media, and non-consensual nudity,\u201d she posted.<\/p>\n<p>The social media giant became the story when it reportedly decided to block a story.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/14\/email-reveals-how-hunter-biden-introduced-ukrainian-biz-man-to-dad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Post<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0Wednesday released a bombshell report just weeks before the presidential election that purported\u00a0to show emails between\u00a0Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic nominee Joe\u00a0Biden, and a\u00a0Burisma official\u00a0while his father was vice president under Barack Obama. The Ukrainian businessman thanked Hunter Biden for apparently accommodating\u00a0a meeting with his father, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>Joe Biden\u2019s detractors said the emails obtained by the Post, at the minimum, raise new questions about the former vice president&#8217;s character. Joe Biden has insisted that he has played no role in his son\u2019s business career and never spoke\u00a0to his\u00a0&#8220;son about his overseas business dealings.\u201d These emails may challenge those claims.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Bates, a spokesman from the Biden campaign, said in a statement\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/senate-to-subpoena-twitter-ceo-over-blocking-of-new-york-post-articles-on-bidens-11602777128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to the Wall Street Journal<\/a>, that the Post &#8220;never asked the Biden campaign about the critical elements of this story. They certainly never raised that Rudy Giuliani \u2014 whose discredited conspiracy theories and alliance with figures connected to Russian intelligence have been widely reported \u2014 claimed to have such materials.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media fn-video\">\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<div class=\"m video-player\" data-video-id=\"6201504718001\" data-video-domain=\"foxnews\" data-widget-type=\"embed\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cMoreover, we have reviewed Joe Biden\u2019s official schedules from the time and no meeting,&#8221;\u00a0as alleged by the paper<em>,\u00a0<\/em>ever took place, Bates said.<\/p>\n<p>The Post later said that Bates\u2019 statement did not deny the meeting, and pointed to a report in Politico that said his campaign indicated that a meeting could have occurred, but in passing.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media twitter\">\n<div class=\"tweet-embed\">\n<div class=\"twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered\"><iframe id=\"twitter-widget-0\" class=\"\" title=\"Twitter Tweet\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/index.html?dnt=false&amp;embedId=twitter-widget-0&amp;frame=false&amp;hideCard=false&amp;hideThread=false&amp;id=1316923557268652033&amp;lang=en&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxnews.com%2Fpolitics%2Ftwitter-announces-new-policies-after-hunter-biden-report-imbroglio&amp;siteScreenName=foxnews&amp;theme=light&amp;widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&amp;width=550px\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-tweet-id=\"1316923557268652033\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Post followed up Wednesday with an article focused on the tech platforms\u2019 purported \u201ccensorship.\u201d And Thursday\u2019s print cover of the tabloid shows a photo of Biden and his son with a big blue \u201cCENSORED\u201d stamp and the headline \u201cFacebook and Twitter block Post expose on Hunter Biden files.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Critics of Twitter point to the company&#8217;s apparent willingness to allow\u00a0Chinese and Iranian state media to push content across its platform and allowed countless unverified\u00a0allegations about President Trump during the Robert Mueller investigation into Russian interference.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey addressed the controversy surrounding actions the company took on Wednesday,\u00a0calling them &#8220;unacceptable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our communication around our actions on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nypost\">@nypost<\/a> article was not great,&#8221; he tweeted. &#8220;And blocking URL sharing via tweet or DM with zero context as to why we\u2019re blocking: unacceptable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Senate Judiciary Committee leaders announced that they will vote on a subpoena for Dorsey to testify before the committee on Friday, Oct. 23. Sen.\u00a0Josh Hawley, R-Mo., said he hoped the committee would vote to subpoena Facebook CEO Mark\u00a0Zuckerberg, too.<\/p>\n<p>Gadde said that Twitter will no longer remove hacked content unless it is \u201cdirectly shared\u00a0 by hackers or those acting in concert with them.\u201d And said the company will \u201clabel Tweets to provide context instead of blocking links from being shared on Twitter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/rep-ken-buck-demands-doj-investigate-removal-of-big-tech-protections-after-censoring-of-nypost-biden-article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">REP. KEN BUCK DEMANDS DOJ INVESTIGATE REMOVAL OF BIG TECH PROTECTION AFTER CENSORING OF NYPOST BIDEN ARTICLE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She thanked those who provided the feedback and admitted that \u201ccontext moderation is incredibly difficult, especially in the critical context of an election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Donald Trump Jr., the son of President Trump, took to Twitter on Wednesday,\u00a0 and called\u00a0 for the immediate investigation into Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot just because of their blatant election interference to protect Biden, but to find out if they\u2019re censoring these NY Post stories at the behest of the Chinese Communist Party.
