{"id":34101,"date":"2020-10-31T06:34:47","date_gmt":"2020-10-31T10:34:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=34101"},"modified":"2020-10-31T06:40:27","modified_gmt":"2020-10-31T10:40:27","slug":"turkey-azerbaijan-dangerous-purveyors-of-state-sponsored-terrorism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=34101","title":{"rendered":"TURKEY &#038; AZERBAIJAN: Dangerous Purveyors of State-Sponsored Terrorism"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s3\">The New Kings of Jihadist Terrorism: Azerbaijan and Turkey<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><!--more--><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34104\" src=\"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-31-at-6.35.19-AM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"969\" height=\"840\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-31-at-6.35.19-AM.png 969w, https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-31-at-6.35.19-AM-300x260.png 300w, https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-31-at-6.35.19-AM-768x666.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 969px) 100vw, 969px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s3\">By David Boyajian<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The vicious war against the Armenian Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabagh) and Armenia by Azerbaijan, Turkey, and thousands of their jihadist terrorists has passed the one month mark. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The jihadis\u2019 presence, which includes ISIS, is consistent with the debauched political cultures and national ambitions of Azerbaijan and Turkey.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It also tells us that the U.S.\/NATO\/EU stance towards those countries continues to be dangerously passive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Just days ago, right in our nation\u2019s capital, Azeri demonstrators <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panarmenian.net\/eng\/news\/286869\/\"><span class=\"s2\">chanted<\/span><\/a> \u201cjihad, jihad, jihad\u201d and flashed the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawarnews.com\/en\/haber\/gray-wolves-from-syria-to-libya--death-squads-in-erdogans-service-h18647.html\"><span class=\"s2\">hand signal<\/span><\/a> of Turkey\u2019s homicidal, neo-fascist Grey Wolves.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">It\u2019s not surprising.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Azerbaijan and Turkey are longtime Turkic allies of jihadist terrorists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b>Turkic Jihadist Terror<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">In the early 1990s, Azerbaijan <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nkr.am\/en\/mercenaries-in-azerbaijani-army\"><span class=\"s2\">deployed<\/span><\/a> thousands of jihadis and terrorists, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/World\/Europe\/2020\/1026\/Nagorno-Karabakh-A-reporter-s-regretful-recollections\"><span class=\"s2\">Afghan Mujahedin<\/span><\/a>, Chechens, and Grey Wolves against Artsakh\u2019s Armenians who had voted for self-determination.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Turkish army officers also took part. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">Al-Qaeda cells in Baku, Azerbaijan helped to plan the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>A dozen Americans and 212 others were killed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">The U.S. Military Academy\u2019s Combating Terrorism Center reports that <a href=\"https:\/\/ctc.usma.edu\/daesh-diaspora-challenges-posed-women-minors-fall-caliphate\/\"><span class=\"s2\">ISIS ranks<\/span><\/a> have included over 900 Azerbaijanis and 7,400 Turks. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">Ahmet S. Yayla, Turkey\u2019s chief of counterterrorism from 2010-13, wrote: \u201cTurkey was a central hub for the travel of over 50,000 ISIS foreign fighters, and the main source of ISIS logistical materials \u2026 <i>making Turkey and ISIS practically allies.<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/armenianweekly.com\/2019\/02\/12\/turkeys-support-of-terrorists-in-syria-exposed-in-secret-wiretaps\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Secret wiretaps<\/span><\/a><\/span><span class=\"s3\"> revealed that Turkey has supplied ISIS in Syria via Ilhami Bali, codenamed Abu Bakr, a 36-year-old Saudi-born Turk. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">Columbia University has issued two valuable studies: ISIS-Turkey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/research-paper-isis-turke_b_6128950\"><span class=\"s2\">Links<\/span><\/a> and Turkey-ISIS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/research-paper-turkey-isi_b_8808024\"><span class=\"s2\">Oil<\/span><\/a> Trade.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b>Today\u2019s Turkic Jihadist Terror<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">Since September, Azerbaijan and Turkey have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nybooks.com\/daily\/2020\/10\/16\/the-syrian-mercenaries-fighting-foreign-wars-for-russia-and-turkey\/\"><span class=\"s2\">brought<\/span><\/a> in ISIS commander <a href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/armenia-azerbaijan-accuse-each-other-of-cross-border-attacks-civilian-toll-climbs\"><span class=\"s2\">Sayf Balud<\/span><\/a>, the Hamza and Sultan Murad Brigades, Syrian terrorists, and thousands of other jihadis to battle Armenians.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Many were present even before September. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">Some of the jihadis had committed atrocities against Christian Armenians and Assyrians, Kurds, Yazidis, and others in Syria and elsewhere.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">Azerbaijan is using some jihadis as <a href=\"https:\/\/investigativejournal.org\/turkeys-syrian-mercenaries-in-azerbaijan-feel-tricked-as-bodies-pile-up\/\"><span class=\"s2\">human shields<\/span><\/a> for its soldiers.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Others are <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/PKfBuU8WXww\"><span class=\"s2\">thrust<\/span><\/a> into battle while Azeris point guns at their backs to prevent retreat.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">Armenian forces have dealt them severe blows.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>One jihadi warned, \u201cJihadi, don\u2019t come, we have been deceived, everything is a lie.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalresearch.ca\/foreign-fighters-nagorno-karabakh-could-lead-region-wide-conflict\/5725765\"><span class=\"s2\">meat grinder<\/span><\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b>Artsakh\u2019s Ordeals<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">In the early 1920s, Soviet dictator Josef Stalin transferred the ancient Armenian territory of Artsakh (96% Armenian) to Azerbaijan to indulge Turkey.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>No country\/people named Azerbaijan\/Azeri had ever existed before 1918.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Artsakh\u2019s Armenians subsequently <a href=\"https:\/\/countercurrents.org\/2020\/10\/the-case-for-affirming-the-independence-of-the-armenian-republic-of-artsakh-nagorno-karabagh\/\"><span class=\"s2\">suffered<\/span><\/a> brutal repression, deportations, and mass murders under Soviet Azerbaijan\u2019s scimitar.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>By 1988, Armenians had been reduced to 76% of the population.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>All this was due to raw, ethno-racial, Azeri fanaticism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Artsakh\u2019s Armenians voted in 1988 and 1991 for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baronesscox.com\/2020\/10\/nagorno-karabakh-artsakh-and-right-to.html\"><span class=\"s2\">self-determination and independence<\/span><\/a> from Azerbaijan according to Soviet law and then international law.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Armenians won the ensuing war.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Note that Azerbaijan claims not only Artsakh but Armenia too.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Artsakh and Armenia are reformist democracies.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Dictatorial Azerbaijan is light-years away from that.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Turkey is a similar political and human rights disaster. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><i>If you lived in Artsakh, would you ever agree to Azeri rule?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Of course not.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b>America\u2019s Global War <\/b><\/span><span class=\"s5\"><b><i>for<\/i><\/b><\/span><span class=\"s3\"><b> Terror<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The Global War on Terror (GWOT) has been American foreign policy\u2019s pi\u00e8ce de r\u00e9sistance since 2001.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Supposedly, therefore, regimes that use jihadis\/terrorists against civilized people should become pariahs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Yet American administrations and Congress have acted largely deaf, dumb, and blind regarding Turkey and Azerbaijan\u2019s support for jihadis\/terrorists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">In 2016, I presented evidence to Richard M. Mills, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, that Turkey supported ISIS.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foreignpolicyjournal.com\/2018\/11\/16\/blundering-american-ambassadors-unmask-the-war-on-terror\/\"><span class=\"s2\">foolishly<\/span><\/a> lied and denied it all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The U.S. (and Europe) fawn over Azerbaijan\u2019s gas and oil deposits and westbound pipelines despite its sickening record on jihadis and human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Our government lies about our GWOT, but we remain silent.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>What kind of people are we?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Rename the GWOT to GWFT: the Global War <\/span><span class=\"s5\"><i>for<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s3\"> Terror.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Azerbaijan has signed and is <a href=\"https:\/\/treaties.un.org\/Pages\/ViewDetails.aspx?src=IND&amp;mtdsg_no=XVIII-6&amp;chapter=18&amp;clang=_en\"><span class=\"s2\">violating<\/span><\/a> the \u201cUN Convention against the Recruitment, Use, Financing and Training of Mercenaries.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Neither the UN, State Department, nor Congress has spoken up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">America provides \u201ccounterterrorism\u201d assistance to Azerbaijan.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Thus, Americans pay it to fight terrorists while Azerbaijan turns around and hires terrorists.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This is sick stuff in which we as Americans are complicit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Now consider the jihad against Armenian\/Armenia\/Artsakh by Israel and the Jewish American lobby.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b>The Kosher Jihad<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Countless Jewish academicians, writers, human rights advocates, and elected officials have supported Armenian Genocide recognition and helped Armenians in other ways.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Not so for top Jewish organizations such as the ADL, AIPAC, AJC, and JINSA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">For decades, they have diminished\/denied the Armenian Genocide and <a href=\"https:\/\/countercurrents.org\/2019\/06\/hypocritical-jewish-organizations-and-the-armenian-genocide\/\"><span class=\"s2\">colluded<\/span><\/a> with Turkey and Israel to defeat Armenian Genocide resolutions in Congress.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The ADL and AJC have relented a bit, though insincerely and only under pressure. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">For years, Israel and most of these organizations, led by AJC, have supported Azerbaijan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Azerbaijani dictator Ilham Aliyev has given his country\u2019s highest award to AJC Executive Director David Harris.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Mazel tov, AJC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Israel demands worldwide recognition of and legislation on the Holocaust but refuses to recognize the Armenian Genocide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Israel is probably Azerbaijan\u2019s biggest weapons supplier.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Israeli cluster bombs \u2014 usually banned under international law \u2014 are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2020\/10\/armenia-azerbaijan-civilians-must-be-protected-from-use-of-banned-cluster-bombs\/\"><span class=\"s2\">killing<\/span><\/a> Artsakh\u2019s civilians.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">As Azerbaijan runs short of weapons and ammo, Israel is now sending more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">There are 24 righteous Armenians in Israel\u2019s Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial but no Azeris.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Oh well, bomb the Armenians goyem anyway using Israeli weapons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Meanwhile, scores of Jewish and Israeli <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rferl.org\/a\/azerbaijan-columbia-shaffer-socar-adviser\/26654044.html\"><span class=\"s2\">writers<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/keghart.org\/stepanian-shrill-jacqueline\/\"><span class=\"s2\">defame<\/span><\/a> Armenia and Armenian Americans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Israel always complains it\u2019s the victim of terrorists and jihadis.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Now it\u2019s on the same side as the jihadis and terrorists in Azerbaijan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Countless Americans, including Christians, sell their souls to the Jewish lobby for political expediency, money, and career advancement and dare not whisper a word of dissent.
