The \u2018Manosphere\u2019 \u2013 an ecosystem of blogs, message boards and Discord channels populated by unabashed male chauvinists who believe women shouldn\u2019t even be voting, let alone serving in office \u2013 is terrified by the prospect of Kamala Harris becoming the US\u2019 first female president. So says Jezebel, at least \u2013 the bible of corporate feminists and identity politics enthusiasts with two X chromosomes.<\/p>\n
The idea that Joe Biden, who turns 78 on Friday and would be the nation\u2019s oldest-ever president if inaugurated in January, will be pushed to the side (or suffer further mental and physical deterioration) and Harris given the reins is framed in\u00a0last week\u2019s article<\/a>\u00a0as\u00a0\u201cpart of a paranoid fantasy about gynocentric \u2018pinkest\u2019 of \u2018femoid\u2019 political control,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0a testosterone-addled fever dream.<\/p>\n Yet the possibility of Biden stepping aside to hand Harris control is hardly a conspiracy theory. In fact, it\u2019s so mainstream it was\u00a0floated by CNN<\/a>\u00a0in August, while Quartz wrote an entire article\u00a0playing out the scenario<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month. Many other establishment pundits have made no secret of their desire to see the old white neoliberal centrist step aside so a comparatively young mixed-race neoliberal centrist can take his place, and the candidate herself has been caught in a Freudian slip\u00a0referring<\/a>\u00a0to the coming \u201cHarris-Biden administration.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n The Manosphere\u2019s crime, then, is seeing \u2018Kamala\u2019s technocracy\u2019, ushered in under the cover of a rapidly sundowning Biden, as a negative. While this faction of internet misogynists represents only a tiny sliver of Harris detractors, Jezebel\u2019s pearl-clutching outburst is part of what is sure to be a multi-pronged effort to tar all opposition to a Harris presidency as an outgrowth of this woman-hating swamp, whose tentacles have somehow managed to infect even the hapless progressives who think they\u2019re opposing Harris for her policies. Poor things! Radicalized and they don\u2019t even know it!<\/p>\n Those policies, it must be said, merit fierce opposition. A Biden-Harris administration will have Americans locked down and masked up as soon as possible in the name of quashing Covid-19, even though the evidence that such draconian measures actually stop the spread of the novel coronavirus is\u00a0flimsy at best<\/a>\u00a0(and one recent study suggested they actually\u00a0make it worse<\/a>). They have vowed to return to Barack Obama\u2019s policy of\u00a0supporting terrorists<\/a>\u00a0masquerading as \u2018pro-democracy\u2019 forces in Syria while continuing Trump\u2019s execrable\u00a0support<\/a>\u00a0for Israel\u2019s human rights abuses.<\/p>\n Biden has vowed to\u00a0veto Medicare for All<\/a>, perhaps the most popular position of the Left, while Harris has promised to enact strict\u00a0gun control<\/a>\u00a0laws \u2013 positions guaranteed to make the pair pariahs on both ends of the political spectrum.<\/p>\n
