Whitmer Approved by Michigan County Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Michigan county board approves resolution in support of impeaching Whitmer<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->BY JOSEPH CHOI<br \/>\nThe Hill<\/p>\n<p>A county in northern Michigan approved a resolution Friday to support the impeachment of Gov.\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/gretchen-whitmer\" data-nid=\"510436\">Gretchen Whitmer<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(D).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlive.com\/news\/2020\/11\/northern-michigan-county-board-declares-its-support-of-impeaching-gov-whitmer.html\">MLive.com reported<\/a>\u00a0that the Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners voted 4-2 on a resolution\u00a0backing calls for Whitmer\u2019s impeachment. The measure will now be sent to the Michigan legislature for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>County Commissioner David Comai blamed what he called Whitmer\u2019s \u201cunconstitutional executive orders\u201d for Kalkaska&#8217;s economic crisis. Many conservatives have expressed outrage at actions Whitmer has taken to slow the spread of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>Top\u00a0GOP\u00a0legislators have indicated they do not support efforts to impeach Whitmer,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2020\/11\/18\/whitmer-impeachment-resolution-introduced-but-key-republicans-oppose\/3767778001\/\">The Detroit News<\/a>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n<div class=\"incontent-plugin incontent-plugin-527253\">\n<div class=\"incontent_widgets es_recommended_content\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/527357-michigan-ag-investigating-threats-against-wayne-county-canvassers?utm_source=thehill&amp;utm_medium=widgets&amp;utm_campaign=es_recommended_content\">Michigan AG investigating threats against Wayne County canvassers<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/527255-michigan-election-board-certifies-biden-win?utm_source=thehill&amp;utm_medium=widgets&amp;utm_campaign=es_recommended_content\">Michigan certifies Biden victory in another blow to Trump<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re not the party that impeaches someone because we\u2019re upset with policies that they\u2019ve enacted,\u201d said state House Speaker Lee Chatfield (R). \u201cI thought it was shameful what the Democrats did to\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\" data-nid=\"261287\">President Trump<\/a><\/span>\u00a0last year, and I would assume that any attempt by Republicans right now, with the current set of facts that we have to impeach the governor, would be on the same level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michigan state Rep. Matt Maddock (R) last week said he and a \u201cgrowing list of Michigan Legislators\u201d planned\u00a0to\u00a0begin proceedings to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/526201-michigan-republicans-plan-to-pursue-whitmers-impeachment\">impeach Whitmer<\/a>. Maddock claimed that Whitmer had \u201cignored court orders. Violated our Constitutional rights. Completely ignored due process and the legislature. Weaponized contract tracing databases to aid democrat campaigns,\u201d when listing the reasons he believed she should be impeached.<\/p>\n<p>Whitmer&#8217;s press secretary, Tiffany Brown, responded by saying, &#8220;Governor Whitmer doesn&#8217;t have any time for partisan politics or people who don&#8217;t wear masks, don&#8217;t believe in science, and don&#8217;t have a plan to fight this virus.
