November 28, 2020 (LifeSiteNews<\/a>) \u2014 America is on the verge of being \u201clost\u201d because many of its citizens are suffering from a \u201cdelusional psychosis\u201d and so fearful that they are turning on each other to enforce \u201cnonsensical\u201d coronavirus restrictions, a California psychiatrist has warned.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t need a police force. We don\u2019t need a secret Stasi to go after the neighbor that isn\u2019t wearing his mask on a park bench. We have families who are willing to do that,\u201d Dr. Mark McDonald said last month during a summit<\/a> on the virus.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have office workers [who] will come by and mace you if you are not wearing a mask, and no one will come to your rescue. In fact, they\u2019ll probably applaud it.\u201d<\/p>\n

A child and adolescent psychiatrist in private practice in West Los Angeles. Dr. Mark McDonald made his remarks during the virtual Truth Over Fear Summi<\/a>t organized by Catholic broadcaster Patrick Coffin.<\/p>\n

The \u201cdriving force of the coronavirus pandemic and the hysteria\u201d around it is fear, McDonald said at the summit<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This fear has now \u201cgrown and become so entrenched that it has reached a state of what I would call delusional psychosis. A delusion is a fixed false belief that is contrary to reality,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cFear has become a new virtue. Never before in the history of this country have we told people that fear is good,\u201d or to \u201csettle into\u201d those fears and allow them \u201cto control and constrain your life,\u201d said McDonald, who spoke at the American Front Line Doctors White Coat Summits in July<\/a> and October<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Americans \u201cwho are either afraid, or who have been fed lies and misinformation for months now, have grown to not only feel afraid, but also to believe that what they are being told is true, which is primarily that all of us are at equal risk of catching a virus and dying from it,\u201d McDonald said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is demonstrably untrue. It is a lie, in fact. And we\u2019ve known that it\u2019s a lie for about six months, and yet people have come to believe it.\u201d<\/p>\n

While there was \u201ca lot of infection\u201d from the coronavirus, there was \u201cvery, very little death or hospitalization outside of very specific populations,\u201d McDonald said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLess than one percent of the population accounts for over 90 percent of all the deaths,\u201d which occur in people \u201cover age 70, mostly over age 80, with at least two and a half to three comorbidities, according to the CDC,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cOther than that group of people, we really are not at risk of hospitalization or death in any meaningful way from this virus, certainly less than we are of standard influenza.\u201d<\/p>\n

Most disturbingly, the pandemic \u201chysteria\u201d has reached the stage of \u201cgoing beyond fear, going beyond the crazy itself, to what I would call group control,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

As a result, Americans are policing themselves to such an extent that governments have \u201cdialed down\u201d enforcement of ongoing lockdowns and restrictions by \u201cmultiple notches,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n

He related personal incidents as examples.<\/p>\n

During a recent flight on Delta Airlines, a \u201cfurious\u201d flight attendant \u201ccastigated me\u201d for drinking water for more than three minutes, and continued to \u201chound\u201d him throughout the flight, McDonald related.<\/p>\n

When the plane reached its destination, McDonald was \u201cescorted off\u201d and interviewed by a station manager. Two weeks later, he received a letter from Delta banning him from flights \u201cin perpetuity,\u201d or until the airline withdrew its mask mandate.<\/p>\n

Moreover, McDonald was later told by the person he was traveling with that \u201call the passengers erupted into applause\u201d after he was escorted off the plane, because \u201ctheir anxiety was relieved by me being punished for not appropriately wearing the mask as requested, as demanded.\u201d<\/p>\n

During another flight, McDonald went to the galley for some water, and an attendant on her break offered to get him some, but was berated by an on-duty flight attendant for not wearing a mask.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis colleague attacking colleague, passenger attacking passenger\u201d is a \u201ctype of behavior I\u2019ve never, ever seen before. I was stunned,\u201d McDonald said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo the end result of this: what appears to me is a country which is using its own citizens as a de facto police force, very similar to communist China, that has a social point system in place where neighbor informs on neighbor, family informs on family,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has a terribly damaging effect on our society.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that while misinformation is a root cause of the pandemic hysteria, Americans are also at fault for their \u201claziness\u201d about educating themselves.<\/p>\n

When the pandemic was first declared, McDonald had \u201cpatience\u201d with people because they were \u201cconfused\u201d by all the conflicting information, but his sympathy has run out.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is readily available information on all platforms of the Internet, social media that any reasonably intelligent and literate person can find and evaluate and critically analyze,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

So widespread and so rooted is this delusional psychosis that \u201cwhen I leave my home or leave my office every day, I have to prepare myself for the inevitable experience of what I would call the \u2018outdoor insane asylum,\u2019\u201d McDonald said.<\/p>\n

The experience \u201creminds me of my time that I spent in residency where I would go through a locked unit door, the door shut behind me, and I\u2019d have to remind myself that anyone not wearing a badge behind that door is crazy,\u201d added McDonald.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow I have to do the same when I\u2019m out in public, because my assumption is that any person that I run into is insane.\u201d<\/p>\n

McDonald also warned things could get much worse.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith a positive outcome in the election, with the removal of those who wish to destroy the country and the election of those who wish to preserve it, we have a fighting chance, but we need a virtuous populace as well, not just a virtuous governing body,\u201d McDonald said at the summit, which took place a few days before the election.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need a people who believe in and cherish freedom as a virtue, rather than fear. Never before in the history of this country has fear been enshrined as a virtue. If it stays this way and we don\u2019t address it and redress it, we are lost.\u201d<\/p>\n
