President Donald Trump early Wednesday told Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that it’s “too soon to give up” on the election after the\u00a0Kentucky Republican congratulated\u00a0<\/a>“President-elect Joe Biden” from the Senate floor.<\/p>\n “Mitch, 75,000,000 VOTES, a record for a sitting President (by a lot),”\u00a0Trump tweeted\u00a0<\/a>to McConnell. “Too soon to give up. Republican Party must finally learn to fight. People are angry!”<\/p>\n Trump’s comments were shared with a news report from\u00a0The Daily Mail<\/a>\u00a0about Republicans turning on McConnell after his floor speech.<\/p>\n In his comments on Tuesday, McConnell said that “our country has officially a president-elect and a vice president-elect. The Electoral College has spoken. So today, I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n McConnell’s comments were the first time he’d referred to Biden as president-elect because of Trump’s continuing legal efforts concerning the election and came after the Electoral College’s vote on Monday for Biden.<\/p>\n The New York Times<\/a>\u00a0reported Tuesday that shortly after his remarks on the Senate floor, McConnell and his key deputies asked colleagues to not join House members to object to the election results when Congress meets on Jan. 6 to ratify the Electoral College vote. The Times report was based on reports from three people familiar with the conversation who had described it on the condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n Other Republicans have also been changing their opinions on the election after the electoral votes, reports\u00a0Politico<\/a>.<\/p>\n “I understand there are people who feel strongly about the outcome of this election,”\u00a0Senate Majority Whip John Thune, R-S.D., who is McConnell\u2019s top deputy, told Politico. “But in the end, at some point, you have to face the music. And I think that once the Electoral College settles the issue today, it\u2019s time for everybody to move on.”<\/p>\n
