{"id":42178,"date":"2020-12-17T11:35:17","date_gmt":"2020-12-17T15:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=42178"},"modified":"2020-12-17T11:35:17","modified_gmt":"2020-12-17T15:35:17","slug":"senate-majority-leader-mitch-mcconnell-proves-again-that-he-is-a-flaming-rino-democrat-appeaser-chinas-inside-man-and-traitor-to-the-republic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=42178","title":{"rendered":"Senate Majority Leader\u00a0Mitch McConnell proves again that he is a flaming RINO, Democrat appeaser, China&#8217;s inside man and traitor to the Republic!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>McConnell urges GOP senators not to object to Electoral College vote<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->BY JORDAIN CARNEY AND ALEXANDER BOLTON<br \/>\nThe Hill<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-wrapper\">\n<div id=\"content\" class=\"column\">\n<article class=\"node-530327 node node-article view-mode-full clearfix\">\n<div class=\"content-with-sidebar-wrp\">\n<div class=\"content-wrp\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Senate Majority Leader\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/mitch-mcconnell\" data-nid=\"188280\">Mitch McConnell<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(R-Ky.) is urging Republicans not to object during Congress\u2019s count and certification of the Electoral College vote next month.<\/p>\n<p>McConnell\u2019s comments were made during a caucus call on Tuesday, according to two sources familiar with the call, and come as House Republicans are eyeing a challenge to the results on Jan. 6 during a joint session of Congress.<\/p>\n<p>A Republican senator who participated in the call said that McConnell, Senate Republican Whip\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/john-thune\" data-nid=\"188189\">John Thune<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(R-S.D.) and Senate Rules Committee Chairman\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/roy-blunt\" data-nid=\"188207\">Roy Blunt<\/a><\/span> (R-Mo.) all urged colleagues not to object to states\u2019 electoral votes when they are received on the House floor next month.<\/p>\n<p>McConnell warned that any GOP senator who signed onto a House Republican objection to a state\u2019s electoral votes would then force the Senate to debate and vote on the objection, putting fellow GOP senators in a bad position.<\/p>\n<p>The GOP leader said an objection \u201cisn\u2019t in the best interest of everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No Senate Republicans indicated during the call that they are currently planning to object.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot that I heard,\u201d said Sen.\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/marion-mike-rounds\" data-nid=\"348587\">Mike Rounds<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(R-S.D.), asked if anyone indicated that they would object during the call.<\/p>\n<p>Sen.\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/john-barrasso\" data-nid=\"188202\">John Barrasso<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Wyo.), the No. 3 GOP senator, added that he hasn\u2019t \u201cheard of any\u201d GOP senator willing to object next month.<\/p>\n<div id=\"dfp-ad-incontent_desk_2-wrapper\" class=\"dfp-tag-wrapper wrapper\">\n<div id=\"dfp-ad-incontent_desk_2\" class=\"dfp-tag-wrapper\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;I think that there was encouragement on the phone for us to accept the result, as much as it&#8217;s not what we, you know, would have envisioned for the next four years, and to try to do what&#8217;s best for American people, which is to look forward,&#8221; said Sen.\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/shelley-moore-capito\" data-nid=\"186488\">Shelley Moore Capito<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(R-W.Va.) said about the call.<\/p>\n<p>Rep.\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/mo-brooks\" data-nid=\"186440\">Mo Brooks<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(R-Ala.) has said he will object as part of next month\u2019s Electoral College count, and is likely to gain support from other Trump allies in the House.<\/p>\n<p>But to successfully force a debate and vote on his objection he\u2019ll need support from at least one GOP senator. That\u2019s only happened twice since 1887, according to the Congressional Research Service.<\/p>\n<p>No Republican senator has joined Brooks, though a few conservatives, including Sens.\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/joshua-josh-hawley\" data-nid=\"418472\">Josh Hawley<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Mo.),\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/ron-johnson\" data-nid=\"188264\">Ron Johnson<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Wis.) and\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/rand-paul\" data-nid=\"188293\">Rand Paul<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Ky.), haven\u2019t ruled it out.<\/p>\n<p>A growing number of Senate Republicans are acknowledging President-elect\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/joe-biden\" data-nid=\"188332\">Joe Biden<\/a><\/span> as the winner of the November election, including McConnell, who congratulated him from the Senate floor on Tuesday, one day after the Electoral College voters gathered to make their votes. Biden and McConnell had their first known conversation since the election on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Top Senate Republicans have also publicly pushed back against talk of trying to object to the election results next month.
