Steve Watson details<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>as London and the entire South East of the UK was plunged into a fresh lockdown over the weekend, scores of countries have banned all travel to and from the UK, but scientists there are demanding to see any evidence that there is a 70% more contagious mutant strain of COVID, having not been shown anything by the government.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/GettyImages-1224413537.jpg?itok=GEpWaWpf\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/GettyImages-1224413537.jpg?itok=GEpWaWpf\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/GettyImages-1224413537.jpg?itok=GEpWaWpf\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"e4b81265-2a44-4eff-84b7-5bfb70f8f2d0\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9073765\/Scientists-call-clarity-claim-new-Covid-19-variant-strain-70-contagious.html\">The Daily Mail reports<\/a>\u00a0that Carl Heneghan, Professor of Evidence Based Medicine at Oxford University\u2019s Nuffield Department of Primary Care, has expressed scepticism over the 70 per cent figure.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>\u201cI\u2019ve been doing this job for 25 years and I can tell you can\u2019t establish a quantifiable number in such a short time frame,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Heneghan said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cEvery expert is saying it\u2019s too early to draw such an inference,\u201d the professor added.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>\u201cI would want to have very clear evidence rather than \u2018we think it\u2019s more transmissible\u2019 so we can see if it is or not,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Heneghan continued.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt has massive implications, it\u2019s causing fear and panic, but we should not be in this situation when the Government is putting out data that is unquantifiable,\u201d the professor further urged.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>\u201cThey are fitting the data to the evidence.
