Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) said he will object during the counting of the Electoral College vote process on Jan. 6, becoming the first senator to confirm they are joining an effort launched by more than a dozen House Republicans.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c<strong>I cannot vote to certify the electoral college results on Jan. 6 without raising the fact that some states, particularly Pennsylvania, failed to follow their own state election laws<\/strong>,\u201d Hawley\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1344307458085412867\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote in a statement<\/a>\u00a0on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I cannot vote to certify without pointing out the unprecedented effort of mega-corporations, including Facebook and Twitter, to interfere in this election, in support of Joe Biden,\u201d he added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"caption caption-img\" role=\"group\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/Hawley-Sen-700x420.jpg?itok=oKOO5b-E\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"d73639f0-1d0a-44ad-98b5-02c5a3c9df62\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><figcaption><em>Senate Judiciary Committee member Sen. According to the Missouri Republican, both chambers have failed to act in an appropriate manner.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFor these reasons,\u201d Hawley continued,\u00a0<strong>\u201cI will follow the same practice Democrat members of Congress have in years past and object during the certification process on Jan. 6 to raise these critical issues<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hawley noted that Democrats objected during the 2004 and 2016 elections \u201cin order to raise concerns\u201d about election integrity. \u201cThey were praised by Democratic leadership and the media when they\u201d objected, Hawley added, saying that they \u201cwere entitled to do so\u201d and Republicans concerned about election integrity in the Nov. 3 election \u201care entitled to do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caption caption-img\" role=\"group\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/mo-brooks-600x360.jpg?itok=S2fjlHSo\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"2d7de774-823d-4235-8f65-231a9536533b\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><figcaption><em>Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) and other House\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-gop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GOP<\/a>\u00a0lawmakers have pledged to object to the counting of the Electoral College votes during the Joint Session of Congress<\/strong>. Their effort requires a senator and a House member that would trigger a series of debates before a vote on whether to certify a state\u2019s Electoral College votes is held.<\/p>\n<p>Some members of the GOP leadership, including Majority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.), have said their efforts are doomed to fail.\u00a0And over the past weekend, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), in comments widely publicized by news outlets, referred to Brooks\u2019s effort as \u201ca scam.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And, according to anonymously sourced reports, Senate Majority Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told GOP senators that they should not take part in the House GOP-led effort on Jan. 6. Another Republican, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), said the attempt to challenge the votes is an improbable one.<\/p>\n<div class=\"Advert_tablet__3QEBr Advert_mobile__1rlLc Advert_align__N0_fw Advert_placement__1I4yb\"><\/div>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c<strong>It\u2019s basically going through the motions<\/strong>,\u201d Cornyn said,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/531692-trump-criticizes-senate-republicans-over-election-results-vote-urges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>\u00a0The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a futile exercise.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But Brooks, for his part, indicated that\u00a0<strong>\u201cdozens\u201d of House members back the effort<\/strong>. \u201cWe\u2019re going to sponsor and co-sponsor objections to the Electoral College vote returns,\u201d Brooks told Fox News on Dec. 28.<\/p>\n<p>In a previous interview with The Epoch Times\u2019\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_cdumF-u0Rw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Thought Leaders<\/a>\u00a0program, Brooks said he believes the Electoral College vote can be rejected, and the election can ultimately be decided in the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Former California Sen.
