Congress set to certify Electoral College results despite GOP objections; here’s why<\/h1>\n

GOP lawmakers in the House and Senate intend to object to states’ Electoral College votes<\/h3>\n

The House and Senate will meet for a joint session Wednesday to certify the\u00a0Electoral College<\/a>\u00a0results, the last step in finalizing the presidential win for\u00a0Joe Biden<\/a> \u2013 but some GOP lawmakers are saying not so fast.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Trump 2020 Campaign<\/a>\u00a0has led dozens of lawsuits in the attempt to overturn the election\u2019s results, which saw Biden beat\u00a0President Trump<\/a>\u00a0by 306-232 Electoral College votes.<\/p>\n

The electoral vote was held Dec. 14, following the Nov. 3 popular vote.<\/p>\n

Trump has continuously claimed that the election was fraudulent, despite former Attorney General William Barr announcing last month that the\u00a0Justice Department<\/a>\u00a0had not “seen fraud on a scale that could have effected a different outcome in the election.”<\/p>\n

The U.S.\u00a0Supreme Court<\/a>\u00a0has also refused to review two cases, and more than 50 lawsuits challenging the results have been thrown out in the lower courts.<\/p>\n

But some\u00a0GOP lawmakers<\/a>\u00a0say a 10-day emergency audit needs to be completed by an electoral commission to restore voters’ faith in the U.S. election process \u2013 a demand that has frustrated not only Democrats but is splitting the Republican Party.<\/p>\n

A dozen Republican senators, led by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, have said they will object to the elections results if an audit is not completed.<\/p>\n
