Displaying a U.S. flag upside down is \u201ca signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property\u201d.<\/p>\n

The FBI rep said there is no law against\u00a0flying<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0flag upside down<\/strong>. The\u00a0Flag<\/strong>\u00a0Code clearly states that the\u00a0American flag<\/strong>\u00a0is not to be flown\u00a0upside down<\/strong>\u00a0\u201dexcept as a signal of dire distress in instance of extreme danger to life or property.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is a distress signal. If you are in dire straits, and need assistance, the US flag is flown with the Union in the downward position. Before Flag Day on 14 JUN 1923, there were no set rules for the US flag. But on this date, the US Flag Code was adopted into the US Code of Federal Regulations.<\/p>\n
