Cracks Down On Big Tech &#8211; Lets Residents Sue Over Censorship, $100K Daily Fine For Suspending Political Candidates<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->ZeroHedge.com<\/p>\n<p>Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has taken bold action against Big Tech &#8211; announcing several measures to counter widespread censorship of conservatives and promote the free exchange of information.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/im-37868.jpg?itok=SGHflvEF\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/im-37868.jpg?itok=SGHflvEF\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/im-37868.jpg?itok=SGHflvEF\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"dc0c4eb5-775f-4795-95f9-497d409e9967\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As reported by\u00a0<em>Breitbart<\/em>&#8216;s Allum Bokhari, the measures &#8211; announced on Tuesday in a 45-minute speech &#8211; include\u00a0<strong>mandatory opt-outs on content filters<\/strong>\u00a0for Floridians,\u00a0<strong>fines,\u00a0<\/strong>and grants residents the ability to\u00a0<strong>sue<\/strong>\u00a0over censorship.<\/p>\n<p>More via\u00a0<em>Breitbart<\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Mandatory opt-outs from big tech\u2019s content filters<\/strong>, a solution to tech censorship\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2018\/08\/27\/bokhari-social-media-platforms-dont-actually-need-to-ban-anyone\/\">first proposed by Breitbart News in 2018.<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>A private right of action<\/strong>\u00a0for Floridian citizens against tech companies that violate this condition.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Fines of\u00a0<strong>$100,000 per day<\/strong>\u00a0levied on tech companies that suspend candidates for elected office in Florida from their platforms.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Daily fines for any tech company\u00a0\u201cthat uses their content and user-related algorithms to suppress or prioritize the access of any content related to a political candidate or cause on the ballot.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><em>Greater transparency requirements.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Disclosure requirements enforced by Florida\u2019s election authorities for tech companies that favor one candidate over another.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Power for the Florida attorney general to bring cases against tech companies that violate these conditions under the state\u2019s\u00a0Unfair and Deceptive Practices Act.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;What began as a group of upstart companies from the west coast<strong>\u00a0has since transformed into an industry of monopoly communications platforms that monitor, influence, and control the flow of information in our country and among our citizens<\/strong>, and they do this to an extent hitherto unimaginable,&#8221; said DeSantis, adding &#8220;<strong>These platforms have changed from neutral platforms that provided Americans with the freedom to speak to enforcers of preferred narratives<\/strong>. We\u2019re demanding transparency from the big tech giants,&#8221; said State House Speaker Chris Sprowls in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The big tech companies have the duty to allow differing views on their public platforms. No one should be excluded.
